I also wonder how can you prove your disease if your doctor is private. Kukuha muna ng certificate sa private doctor mo bago pumunta sa government for vaccine?

Parang ang daming scenario na pwede magka gulo. I don't trust Duque will do a good job on handling this inoculation.

Vaccine resistant variants... Di pa nila na test ung E484K, variant.

Oxford/AstraZeneca Covid-19 shot less effective against South Africa variant, study shows, Europe News & Top Stories - The Straits Times

British drugmaker AstraZeneca said on Saturday (Feb 6) its vaccine developed with the University of Oxford appeared to offer only limited protection against mild disease caused by the South African variant of Covid-19, based on early data from a trial.

The study from South Africa's University of the Witwatersrand and Oxford University showed the vaccine had significantly reduced efficacy against the South African variant, according to a Financial Times report published earlier in the day.

Among coronavirus variants currently most concerning for scientists and public health experts are the so-called British, South African and Brazilian variants, which appear to spread more swiftly than others.

"In this small phase I/II trial, early data has shown limited efficacy against mild disease primarily due to the B.1.351 South African variant," an AstraZeneca spokesman said in response to the FT report.

The newspaper said none of the more than 2,000 trial participants had been hospitalised or died.

"However, we have not been able to properly ascertain its effect against severe disease and hospitalisation given that subjects were predominantly young healthy adults," the AstraZeneca spokesman said.

Chronic Covid-19 and Convalescent Plasma May Boost Mutation Risk

British doctors who spent 102 days treating a cancer survivor for Covid-19 documented how the virus mutated after the man was treated with convalescent plasma.

The case study suggests the use of blood plasma donated from Covid-19 survivors may have put enough pressure on the virus to force it to evolve. The result: Less susceptibility to immune system antibodies that normally fight off infection, according to the report published Friday in the journal Nature.

While the convalescent plasma didn’t seem to harm the patient, it offered no clear benefit, said senior author Ravindra Gupta, a professor of clinical microbiology at the Cambridge Institute of Therapeutic Immunology and Infectious Disease. It should be used cautiously in people with chronic immune conditions, he said, preferably in clinical trials or carefully controlled settings.

The report also suggests that numerous mutations may be emerging among patients who have both compromised immune systems and chronic infections.

“When the virus has a chance to sit in one person for a long time and replicates for weeks and months, it learns how to fight the immune system,” Gupta said. It’s all about “pressure on the virus.”

Ewan ko sayo, buong side ng Mom ko nasa US nakatira, wala naman may alam sa lianhua

BTT: Went out today, naka double mask ako, isang 3 ply at isang 4 ply. It's not that bad naman. Mas comfortable pa ko with 2 masks than 1 mask and face shield.

when a vaccine designed and tested in 2020 is no longer effective in 2021

South Africa suspends AstraZeneca vaccine drive

JOHANNESBURG (AP) — South Africa has suspended plans to inoculate its front-line health care workers with the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine after a small clinical trial suggested that it isn't effective in preventing mild to moderate illness from the variant dominant in the country.

South Africa received its first 1 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine last week and was expected to begin giving jabs to health care workers in mid-February. The disappointing early results indicate that an inoculation drive using the AstraZeneca vaccine may not be useful.

Even if half the world's population get vaccinated... A new mutation coming from the other half may wipe out any immunity they got...

Scientists in South Africa said on Sunday that a similar problem held for people who had been infected by earlier versions of the coronavirus: The immunity they acquired naturally did not appear to protect them from mild or moderate cases when they were reinfected by the variant, known as B.1.351.
