*boybi: Globe Broadband, actually, is PPPoA. Not much different from PPPoE, except that the modem should be the one handling the password authentication churva, yung router connect lang sa modem (if not using a modem-router).

For SmartBRO(ken), just use "Obtain IP automatically" or "use DHCP" or whatever it's called. No special password ek-ek.

thanks. anyone here familiar with Netgear Storage Central? i mean, i've been reading their white paper. but they didn't indicate whether it will need a typical hard drive (ATA100/133) only that they indicate IDE ATA6. ano ito same lang ba ito with ATA133? thanks! i'm interested in acquiring network storage system...

But MAC filtering is NOT secure. The best it can do is prevent the Joneses (or dela Cruzes) next door from downloading pr0n off your connection. Your machines constantly send out their MAC addresses to identify themselves on the network. Anybody can sniff out these packets from the airwaves, and use a surprisingly common feature in OS network drivers to "spoof" their own machine's IP addresses, and gain access to the network anyway.

Also, all MAC filtering does is prevent any unknown machine from access to the AP itself. It doesn't prevent any rogue computer from eavesdropping through the airwaves, picking up passwords and other sensitive data. Overall, MAC filtering is only useful for a small network that are strictly used by the same machines every time.

I don't recommend MAC filtering by itself, you have to use it in tandem with WPA2 or some other strong encryption. WEP is useless, but MAC filtering by itself is even more useless.

According to my Google searches, ATA6 should be a parallel standard. So, yes, ATA100/133/(66/33) would work.

    * Ian_REX: if you are downloading a lot of stuff from web or bit*******, you may be interested in a NAS that can download it for you. freeing you from expense of a 24-hr operating PC. It also serves as an iTunes music server.

    question
    1. pano mabalik yung unang secure connection na ginawa ko.
    2. maibabalik pa ba yun? o i have to do the ten steps again with the cdrom?
    3. automatic bang talagang gagawa ng unsecure connection yung linksys?

baka nagreset to factory default yung linksys mo. i-setup mo nalang manually yang linksys mo for the security settings pero pwede mo rin ulitin yung 10-step na wizard.

can't access my edimax wireless router config. When I type in the address, I go to google or sometimes to IE can not open the page...

This happened after I was trying to improve my securtiy by implementing MAC Address filtering and changing the SSIDS. When I changed the SSIDS, I got the connection problem and was not able to complete it.

The thing is my internet and network still works. I can access my router and connect to the internet without problems. Just can't open the config page. I already tried clearing my cache but its still the same.

Found out whats wrong. My ip address is not the same as the Edimax wireless router. Its not the usual 192.168.2.1 I don't know why and what is causing it.

I have my TCP/IP set to obtain IP address automatically. I tried to do the ipconfig/release, ipconfig /renew but it still gets a different ip address. Everything else works fine its just I can't access my routers config page which I need to do.

    pls.

Also, how do you configure Windows firewall or the routers firewall not to respond to ping?

probably a reset at the back of the router is the only solution to your problem.

on win firewall. go to advanced, then highlight the net connection, click settings, then click the ICMP tab. uncheck the "allow incoming echo req."

on a router. we normally block icmp protocol, or port 0.

Is there any advantage to unchecking the "allow incoming echo req" option? Also, are there any potential disadvantages or drawbacks to doing this?

I treid unchecking the "allow incoming echo request" but it won't let me uncheck.

userfriendly, do "ipconfig /all" at the command prompt (before doing it be sure that ur connected in the network). Look into the LOcal Area Connection, write down the IP address there (example: 169.254.1.100), now open ur browser type in 169.254.1.1 (just copy the whole thing and replace the last digit with 1) then Enter. You should be able to access na your config.

The config address changes according to the IP address range that u specified in the router (192.168.1.100; 169.254.1.20), just remember to replace the last digit into 1.
FYI: The default is 192.168.1.1 for Linksys, 192.168.0.1 for D-Link; but if you change the IP range in the router they follow ur IP range.

Another, based on your comments I think your using a wireless laptop to access ur config. It is also possible that in your router config, u could have disabled the "COnfig Access through Wireless" it means u have to be wired to access the config/setup.

try to logon on your XP using the "Administrator" username. If you're using the welcome screen, just press 'ctrl+alt+del' to get the oldschool logon screen.

Thanks it worked. You were right on both.

Unfortunatly, I renamed the administrator username to something else as a security measure. Now even when i'm logged on using this name, I can't uncheck it. Oh well ......
