We have 3 wireless phones and found at least 2 of them interfere with the WiFi signal, intermittent cut offs.

We have not really investigated the frequencies of the gadgets other than experiment which one works and which one does not.

Better check if you have wireless phones in the same house as your WiFi.

stick to vanilla 802.11g... dont buy those range booster at speed booster things... those are not governed by the standard kaya requires much more attention in configuration...

As for the brands... stick with Linksys & Netgear... D-link has mediocre performance... If I were to choose, I would buy the Linksys routers & USB wireless... makes all of your configurations very flexible.

WiFi routers uses the 2.4+ Ghz band, and usually cordless phone uses the 2.4GHz band also, so there is a possibility that booth will interfere.

    OT:
Don't forget to put security on your WiFi Router, otherwise 'yong mga kapitbahay mo magkakaroon ng libreng connection, ala free hotspot na.

How does one know if someone is illicitly tapping into one's wireless network? Is a slowdown in downloading speed an indicator? Is there a utility on the router's admin page that one can access to view a list of computers connected to the network?

Meron... there's usually a list of clients accessing the router... just click a button named list of DHCP clients if your using a Linksys router...

you can list the number of computers connected using the router's web-based control panel. To prevent outside people tapping into your WiFi, simply enable the security protocols like WEP.

Another option (although not that secure) is to enable connection by valiadated machine numbers only.

Why? Most pc forums are normally kind to newbies. Just stay away from the platform wars section........
