LG G Flex wins iF Design Award 2014

The LG G Flex smartphone was one of the winners of the iF Design Awards, getting a Gold Award along with 74 other products this year. According to LG, "The G Flex was commended by iF judges for implementing a new approach to the smartphone interface by putting controls on the back and adopting a curved display, thereby adding immensely to the smartphone experience in terms of both ergonomics and quality."

The G Flex is one of the first smartphone of its kind to feature a vertically curved display that follows the contour of your face. It also puts the controls on the back, same as the G2, that allows having thinner bezels. LG also used a special POLED or Plastic OLED display for this phone, which is flexible in nature. The back also features a unique self healing material that automatically hides minor scratches over a period of time.

Curved ZTE Grand S ext is the company's next flagship

Two renders uploaded on RedDot21 website reveal ZTE's upcoming flagship - the Grand S ext. It has a curved body and should be build using Nano Molding Technology (NMT).

The NMT basically injects plastic and metal together in the mold and the end product is easy to cut, cheap to build, lightweight and yet with great quality and durability.

Nope. Batteries should not swell simply because you left it charging overnight. All my phones are left charging overnight and so far only one swelled up like a pillow. Replaced the battery and swelling didn't happen again.

swelling batteries are potentially harmful not just to phones pero sa user na din...

most batteries sa phones are either lithium ion or lithium polymer,,

you know what will be a good thing to do with this curve display? curve it, mold it to the wrist of the user. parang yung "cellphone ni jodie foster sa elysium although curved to the wrist and very thin as if you're wearing nothing.

Xiaomi Mi 3 review: An Android smartphone that delivers high-end performance at a mid-range price

Popular Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi released its third-generation Android smartphone in September last year, but the device is only just making its way beyond Greater China and into Singapore today.

The Southeast Asian country marks Xiaomi’s first stop in its march overseas. The company has already released its lowest-cost smartphone in its range of devices, the Redmi, to a warm welcome in Singapore. Though Xiaomi refused to release figures, the first batch of Redmi phones sold out in eight minutes when launched on February 21, while the second batch, which followed six days later, sold out in six minutes. The enthusiasm for the Redmi is perhaps not unexpected — the handset sells for just S$169 ($134), thus widening its potential appeal.

The real test comes as Xiaomi’s flagship Mi 3 goes on sale with a price tag of S$419 ($332) unlocked, nearly triple the price of the Redmi. If the Mi-3 does well in Singapore, it could very well give competitors including Samsung, HTC and LG cause for concern.

Octa-core HTC Desire 616 leaks in cool red

Remember HTC's octa-core that revealed itself in the AnTuTu benchmark database? It's called the HTC Desire 616 and today we can take a first look at its photos published by the Chinese TENAA.

It has approved the device to hit the market, which hints that its announcement isn't far away. The Desire 616 looks to be a budget mid-range offering with a 5" 720p display and a 1.7GHz octa-core MediaTek CPU with 1GB of RAM. Rather disappointingly, the phone comes with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean out of the box.

By the looks of it, HTC is targeting China as the primary market of the Desire 616, but as it often happens, a global version could be available as well later on. At the back, the Desire 616 packs an 8MP camera with LED flash.

The phone measures 142 x 71.9 x 9.1 mm and weighs 150 grams. It doesn't sport front-facing BoomSound speakers, like its bigger brother the One (M8). Now, with the phone having a green light to go on sale in China, we expect it to go official sooner rather than later.

Specs bigger and better than Galaxy Note 3... 128GB storage space!

ZTE Nubia X6: 3GB RAM, 128GB storage, 13MP front and rear cameras - YugaTech | Philippines, Tech News & Reviews

ZTE Nubia X6: 3GB RAM, 128GB storage, 13MP front and rear cameras

The previously-reported smartphone from ZTE under the Nubia brand was just launched and it’s got a list of (really, really) impressive specs more so in terms of imaging.

    ZTE Nubia X6 specs:

    6.44-inch display * 1920 x 1080 screen resolution, 344 ppi
13MP rear camera with dual flash, OIS, and f/2.0 lens
13MP front camera with BSI and f/2.2 lens
    Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor (2.3GHz 4X Krait 400/2.5GHz 4X Krait 400)
    3GB RAM
    32GB, 64GB, 128GB internal storage
    Dual-SIM
    Wi-Fi, NFC
    3G, LTE
    4250mAh battery

As you may have noticed, the Nubia X6 doesn’t only come in a single variant but a couple. There’s the 32GB base model at CNY3,000 (or Php21,694), the 64GB at CNY3500 (Php25,310), and the premium 128GB at CNY4,000 (around Php28,926).

The ZTE Nubia X6 is still exclusive to China as of the moment, but let’s hope that it reaches the Philippine shores. If it does, current flagship phones will have a new competition joining in on the fun — for less.
