thanks Bro nugundam and sir JAP
np boeing. i'll read up on that later when i get home. i'm thinking i'm not gonna need core2 duo kasi since i'll only need a laptop in those cases na i'm stuck in the office due to coding and i need to finish some school reports and stuff...no games pa nga actually, maybe just the once-in-a-while video (hahaha, no ****, that's what the desktop is for) to keep me entertained, but with enough specs to make it usable for at least 3 years...
Core Duo (Yonah)
-32bit
-dualcore with 2MB cache
-an improvement of the previous product (Dothan)
- TDP is around 30-35W
Core 2 Duo (Merom/Conroe/Woodcrest)
-64bit
-dualcore with 2MB/4MB cache
-completely new architecture
-same TDP as YNH (on mobile)
Hi Peeps!
Thank you very much for the informations.
Got a lot of insights.
However, it seems that the notebooks being sold here usually have Inter Graphic Accelerator 950 in it, and I believe this is shared memory with the mother board. It seems that only a few model/units have ATI or nViDia installed in them, and if there is a separate video card installed, its usually low model of the graphic cards.
Anyone who knows any unit with a much better video card slotted? Higher series so to speak.
Also anyone knows where a clone notebook can be purchased?
Thanks in advance.![]()
ser meron pong "clone" or unbranded notebooks pero you'll have to take into account na:
-walang BIOS or any technical support
-pano warranty nyan?
-pag naglapse na yung warranty may available pa bang parts, etc etc
if you are getting affordable ones, do check the number of ram slots. Check the internet kung may online support siya or may reviews.
MSI S270 lang yung gamit ko ngayon. Medyo mababa na yung specs.
AMD Turion 64 (pdeng paltan ng processor!!!)
512MB RAM
40GB HDD
ATI X200 shared
Combo Drive
got an acer 5551 yesterday and i still don't have time to run it through its paces. specs that i recall would be core duo (1.6mhz ata), 512mb ram, dvdrw drive, wireless nic and bluetooth, almost 3kg weight. some observations though:
the speakers though make a tinny sound, liit lang kasi. hehehehe.
i noticed...it's frickin hot sa right portion ng palmrest nearest the user if you use it for a while. hmmm...makahanap nga ng laptop cooler.
i like the feel ng keyboard though. my classmate has an asus laptop and i noticed when i was typing on it na sumasabit yung fingers ko sa edges ng keys surrounding the one that i'm currently pressing on, nakakatakot at baka bigla na lang matanggal yung keycap. none of that feeling with the 5551. :D
hate the bios, nothing much to tinker with (hehehehe) pero i can't complain naman.
i like the screen, vibrant colors.
the dvdrw drive's a bit noisy though...di lang siguro ako sanay.
good choice with the core duo.
how many hours na lalast yung battery?
wanted the core2 duo sana kaya lang my mom's gonna kill me na, i borrowed her bpi card kasi yun ang may installment although i'm still paying her naman. hehehe.
i'm currently running her on minimum battery settings, 3 hours ang max. i have yet to doublecheck if ilang cells yung battery, it could explain the battery life. at the moment, i'm using it as a glorified mp3 player when i take a dump () or shower since sa bahay, andun naman desktop for making my termpapers, i'll be making full use of this when i'm out of the house na.
as for navigating, it runs fast. my butt dyno (hahaha) feels it loads faster than my desktop running a p4-2.4 (overclocked to 2.7) with 768mb or ram...even though the desktop has less startup apps. :D
Dualcore does wonders for laptop/Windows responsiveness. It kicks the crap out of any singlecore laptop cpu and the difference is so noticable. If there's any good time to buy a laptop, now is the time. Even the Core Duo (not the faster Core2 Duo) laptops are very nice. They fall just short of my X2 4200+ desktop. I too was amazed at the Core Duo laptops I tried out.
so true. :D
can't wait to get home...i'll try to install some games like quake 4 and see how it'll run. heheheh.![]()
uh-oh. intel 950.![]()
![]()
still worth a try. hehehe. let's see how much it could do.
Get a Mac if you have a lot of dough to go around, but for budget concious get a Dell. I just got mine last monday, so it would be a while before I can say how it goes.
i regret na i wasn't able to ask my folks to get a dell na lang when they went to the US last month...dito kasi ang mahal, nakakainis.![]()
The MacBook is actually quite competitive with the majority of its pc equivalents at $1099. Some things to note though. Apple did slow down even more the built-in GMA950. I'm not sure why. But, it's probably to increase battery life or lower power consumption. If you don't game, it's a good buy.
But, what I'm amazed at is Acer. I saw this at newegg.com (US-only):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834115246
Core Duo 1.66ghz
15.4 WXGA
1GB DDR2 ram
120GB 5400 rpm hard drive
8x DVD+/-R writer
and..............an ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 with 128mb video ram.
$1079.99
I had to do a doubletake on that last one. A $1080 laptop with discrete graphics? Wow! I hope Acer doesn't go broke with deals like that one.
It also has a modem, WiFi a/b/g, bluetooth, vga out and tv out, gigabit lan, pc card slot, firewire, usb2, 5-in-1 reader, 1.3mp CMOS camera

No kidding. I hope the price is not a typo. I don't see an XP Home cd in the pictures, though. Still, I'd gladly add a retail XP cd to that low-priced gameable laptop.
I also forgot to add that it has DVI-out in addition to VGA out.
I'm still amazed..... an ATI Mobility X1600? Sweet mama. The 128mb video ram may seem low. But the laptop screen res is WXGA (1280x800). 128mb should be plenty enough at that res for most games.
