Ergo: If the "slower" tire is actually proving to be quick in the middle segment (where Lewis did not build up a huge cushion, just a modest one), then it will be very quick near the end.

There was always a question of whether Nico would be able to beat Lewis on the alternate strategy of going Soft-Hard-Soft (versus Lewis' Soft-Soft-Hard)... he only got the chance to challenge because of the safety car. That's all.
    You are absolutely correct.

Nico would have overtaken Hamilton after the safety car, but Hamilton's defensive skill and corner attack is spot. Hamilton's lift, coast, and break is superb, Nico will never have a chance at WDC unless he perfects that technique.

FIA have created dangerous thing with the new regulation.

    1. Weight

Vergne admits hospitalisation amid extreme F1 diets

"Actually, I was in hospital between the grands prix in Australia and Malaysia because of a lack of water and a little bit of lack of everything. I was very weak," the 23-year-old revealed.

Vergne said that while the minimum car-plus weight limit was raised by the FIA for the new turbo V6 rules, the 692kg figure is still far too low.

"Frankly, this (situation) is stupid," he insisted.

When the Ferrari Boss couldn't even bare to watch his team trashed by the guys from Stuttgart...

Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo has described the team's current struggles as "very painful".

The Italian marque struggled amid severe tyre degradation and slow straight-line speed at the Bahrain Grand Prix, with drivers Fernando Alonso and Kimi Räikkönen having to settle for respective ninth and 10th positions.

"I don't like seeing Ferrari in this condition," explained di Montezemolo, whose team has slipped to fifth in the Constructors' standings. "The engine people at the factory need to work to make a big leap forward in quality.

"I didn't expect much here, but I expected a bit more. To see a Ferrari this slow on the straights is very painful."

Alonso is hopeful that the team can make improvements and soon fight for its first silverware of the season.

"We believe we can do better than we are doing now," said the two-time World Champion. "And the [Sakhir] track is one of the worst [for the Ferrari]. We are missing some of the characteristics that this track requires.

"In China I expect to be more competitive. Some circuits are coming where we need to get some podiums."
    Somebody's head will surely roll...

F1 agrees to turn up the volume

Although no immediate solution is at hand, F1 teams and the powers-that-be have agreed to look for a way to increase the engine noise.

The sound of the new 1.6-litre V6 engines has been heavily criticised by many in Formula One; drivers and fans alike.

This prompted FIA president Jean Todt to meet with the teams in Bahrain where it was agreed they would try find a soltuation.

"It's something we have been addressing with all the manufacturers involved in F1, to address the thing even with the new regulations," Todt told Autosport.

"So we must see if we can implement in short, medium, long term, a bigger noise. And that we will do and we will get unanimous agreement."

Pressed as to a timeframe for this happening, the Frenchman said: "It's very difficult for me to give you an accurate answer.

"I have been asked to address the problem of the noise. It is a problem which creates some concern.

"I feel that we can apply it with the unanimous agreement of how to apply it, then we will do it.

"After Barcelona there will be two days testing, so hopefully there is something that can be tested."

^^ That means bye bye to the fuel flow limit since the easiest way they can do that is to increase the rpm. They can only manage 12K rpm with the current fuel flow limit.

Exhaust profiling is useless since the turbo is acting as its muffler.

Indeed! Buti na lang ganda ng race last weekend otherwise makaka tulog ka talaga sa current engine noise.

Cutting edge para sa greenie movement daw. Focus na lang sila sa Formula E, yun wala talagang ingay yun.

Two new teams likely to compete from 2015, says Bernie Ecclestone

Two new teams are likely to be on the starting grid next season, says Formula 1 chief executive Bernie Ecclestone.

Motor sport's world governing body, the FIA, announced in December that it was seeking expressions of interest from potential new entrants.

Gene Haas, one half of Nascar's successful Stewart-Haas Racing team, is thought to be keen to join Formula 1.

Another newcomer could be Serbia and Germany-based StefanGP, run by former Hispania and Midland boss Colin Kolles.

Asked about Haas, Ecclestone replied: "I think they have asked to be admitted."

The 83-year-old then added: "They will be accepted, and we've also accepted another team as well, although whether they'll make it or not is another story.

"But we are happy to have another couple of teams. I've spoken to (FIA president) Jean Todt and we agreed."

The FIA was due to make a decision by the end of February but is yet to say anything officially.

The organisation is still thought to be conducting due diligence procedures before making any formal announcements about next season.

NEW F1 REGULATIONS DRAW INTEREST FROM BMW, FORD

The new regulations may have attracted ire from fans but it’s also attracting car manufacturers to potentially return to Formula One.

Honda has already announced that it would make a comeback as an engine supplier to McLaren, and now it has been joined by speculation that BMW and Ford are considering a return as well.

Giancarlo Minardi, founder of the now-defunct Minardi team, said on his website that the "engine revolution that has marked this new era" of F1 has forced BMW to consider its involvement in the sport and may return as early as 2015.

"If the interest of a manufacturer such as BMW will be confirmed, this will be the answer to the technical choices adopted and the confirmation that F1 is and will be the world best expression of car racing," he wrote.

BMW last raced in F1 with Sauber in 2009 before withdrawing due to the economic crunch at the time.

    FORD TO POWER HAAS?

Two new teams are expected to join the grid next year, with one of the entries fielded by NASCAR team owner Gene Haas.

The American team hasn’t announced its engine supplier yet but recent reports suggest that it could be Ferrari, Honda or even Ford.

“Haas Automation entry could utilise Ford branded Cosworth engines, the English firm has recently opened a new office in Detroit and developed its own power unit for the 2014 season, but refused to put it into production without a OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) partner,” reports Racecar Engineering.

V6 TURBOS KEPT MERCEDES, RENAULT IN F1

Not only have the new engine regulations, involving 1.6 litre turbos laced with energy recovery systems, attracted car manufacturers to return to F1 but has also ensured existing engine suppliers to continue.

Renault pushed for the new regulations, without which the French manufacturer would have pulled out, while Mercedes too revealed that it would have quit had the old V8s continued, citing its irrelevance to its road car operations.

Court hearing on the Red Bull disqualification from the Australian GP just finished.

Doesn't look good for Red Bull. After winning the tire battle last year, perhaps Horner's head has gotten a little swelled... this should bring them back down to size.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

Yep RB got a weak case. What's surprising is the active participation of Merc's Lawyer, even questioning the witnesses and pushing FIA to hand a much harder punishment to RB.

Looks like FIA is no longer Ferrari International Assistance.

Sao Paulo extends Formula 1 contract until at least 2020

Sao Paulo officials have signed a six-year extension to their contract to host Formula One’s Brazilian Grand Prix, while Rio de Janeiro has been dropped as a venue for the new Formula E motor-racing championship.

Sao Paulo’s F1 race contract was due to expire following this year’s event on November 9, but the City of Sao Paulo has agreed terms with race promoters and the International Motorsport Federation (FIA) to keep the grand prix until at least 2020.

Formula One Chief Executive Bernie Ecclestone had previously warned that the grand prix could be moved to Rio amid concerns over the standard of facilities at Sao Paulo’s Interlagos circuit. Rio hosted Brazil’s grand prix throughout the 1980s before it switched to its current location of Sao Paulo in 1991.

Under the terms of the new contract, organisers have committed to a $160m redevelopment of Interlagos that will include the track being completely resurfaced and an overhaul of the existing pit facilities.

In other news, the FIA have announced that Rio has been removed from the inaugural calendar of the Formula E series. Formula E in December finalised its calendar for its debut season, with Rio having stepped in to replace Hong Kong on the 2014-15 schedule.

The city was scheduled to host the third round of the season in November but will now be replaced by an as yet unidentified venue. This new venue will take a February calendar slot, with Los Angeles’ race moving to April.

TEAM STATEMENT: APPEAL | Infiniti Red Bull Racing

Infiniti Red Bull Racing accepts the ruling of the International Court of Appeal today.

We are of course disappointed by the outcome and would not have appealed if we didn't think we had a very strong case. We always believed we adhered to the technical regulations throughout the 2014 Australian Grand Prix. We are sorry for Daniel that he will not be awarded the 18 points from the event, which we think he deserved. We will continue to work very hard to amass as many points as possible for the team, Daniel and Sebastian throughout the season.

We will now move on from this and concentrate on this weekend's Chinese Grand Prix.
