And I thought turbo-lag was only a problem with cheap engines...

Crisis-struck Red Bull asks Toro Rosso for help | News | Motorsport.com

Mar.5 (GMM) Red Bull's early-season technical crisis is plumbing new depths, with news the reigning world champions are calling upon junior team Toro Rosso for help.

Italy's authoritative Autosprint reports that Red Bull has asked the Faenza based sister team for assistance on the all-new 'brake by wire' technology, which is tied in with the highly-sophisticated 'ERS' systems.

"The fact that Red Bull wants to use someone else's (system) says a lot about the size of Red Bull's other problems," said veteran correspondent Alberto Antonini.

One of those bigger problems is with extreme "turbo lag", Red Bull's Dr Helmut Marko admits.

"You step on the gas," he told Austrian television Servus TV, "but the power comes all of a sudden, the wheels spin, the car slides and you lose speed.

"We are working with Renault on the test benches day and night to improve the situation for Melbourne," added Marko.

World champion Sebastian Vettel, however, is expecting to struggle next weekend.

"If half the drivers fail to finish, then maybe we could take a few points," he said.

"At the moment we have bigger problems to solve than just the pace."

Lotus Renault isn't a happy bunch. Grosjean is one pissed dude.

Mar.6 (GMM) Romain Grosjean wasn't his always-smiling self during one dramatic moment at the Bahrain tests last week.

Footage has emerged of the Frenchman angrily thumping the tool benches in the Lotus garage as he apparently discussed the new Renault-powered E22's obvious problems with an engineer.

The footage can be seen below:

Having sat out the first test at Jerez amid recent financial problems, the extent of Lotus' situation with its troubled 2014 car became clear only in Bahrain.

"Of course," Frenchman Grosjean is quoted by Speed Week, "we are still far away from a good performance.

"We need to understand the brake-by-wire system, the new power unit and charging the batteries and in these areas, it doesn't look so good," he admitted.

"But together with Renault, we will work in the next two weeks until Melbourne to improve."

Asked how he will keep his ever-present smile on his face early in 2014, Grosjean answered: "Think of my son."

F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone rules out Indian GP in 2015

There is bad news for Formula 1 fans in India. According to a Reuters report, F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone has ruled out Indian Grand Prix's return in 2015.

Speaking to the news agency, Ecclestone reportedly said that there was never a plan to have the Indian GP return in F1's 2015 schedule. "At the moment, India won't be on for next year for sure. Probably 2016," he was quoted as saying. "They're gradually getting over all the bureaucracy with the tax position inside the country and the general finance."

The Indian GP made its debut in 2011 and was part of the F1 calendar for three years before being taken off for 2014 season. Issues with taxation were seen as the major reason for taking F1 away from the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida with the event being categorized as entertainment rather than as a sport.

Jaypee, organisers of the Indian Grand Prix, had told NDTV last year that every effort was being made to ensure that F1's return to Indian shores. Ecclestone's latest revelation though points in the opposite direction as India's wait looks all set to extend by a year.

McLaren unveils special one-off Mobil 1 livery

McLaren has revealed that it will run a one-off livery to celebrate its 20-year partnership with oil and fuel supplier Mobil 1.
The ExxonMobil company will be celebrating its 333rd race as a partner of McLaren.

As part of a one-off branding deal, the MP4-29 will feature a new black and silver livery with large Mobil 1 branding on its sidepods.

Speaking about the event, McLaren COO Jonathan Neale said: "We are priviledged to have worked closely with ExxonMobil. During 332 races together, we have achieved four world championships, 78 wins, 229 podium finishes and 76 pole positions - a huge testament to our powerful technology partnership.

"Seeing Mobil fuels branding on the MP4-29 is a great recognition of the relationship's contribution to performance over our two decades together."

Artis Brown, Mobil 1's global motorsports manager, added: "To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Mobil 1's relationship with McLaren, we are looking forward to showcasing a special branding scheme during the first race of the 2014 season.

"There is a lot of energy entering this race. Not only are we celebrating our 20th anniversary with McLaren, but we are also welcoming Kevin Magnussen into the team. When you combine these elements with the introduction of the new V6 engine, this should be a very exciting weekend.

"We are proud to celebrate our relationship with McLaren this weekend and are looking forward to an exciting season."
