sige, sabihin na nating may mali sa pagrereport. sabi daw masyado na malayo yung reporter sa kaguluhan to be wearing the vest and misleading daw yung location. pwede naman galing siya dun kaya di pa natanggal yung vest diba? pwede din babalik siya sa area na yun after reporting. naninigurado lang naman siguro yung reporter kasi buhay din niya ang nakataya. anything can happen anywhere and anytime. pwede din utos sa kanya ng network to keep the vest on for dramatic purposes. di ko na masyado maala yung report na ito pero if may mali din sa editing, say, nakalagay sa screen yung maling location, eh di dapat ma-reprimand yung editing staff diba? there are a lot of reasons why this happened that, regardless of any sane/reasonable/obvious explanation, will be unacceptable to the general public. maybe we're all getting to vigilant to the point that we criticize smaller things when we should keep our eyes open for more pressing matters like the pork barrel scam.

mga netizens nga naman, basta makapuna at makuha lang ang 15 mins of fame.

This is either incredibly funny or incredibly annoying.

Rappler statement on the surrender in Zamboanga
(remember, Rappler is the news outlet that first broke the Napoles case)

80 MILF insurgents reportedly want to surrender. With 35 civilians, they waited overnight from Thursday for processing... and weren't processed. DILG and Mar Roxas deny that any surrender took place. PNP group that accepted surrender ordered out of the area.

In other news... Binay on way to Zamboanga to negotiate ceasefire.

Coincidence? Bawal ba mag-surrender bago mag-ceasefire?

Gazmin: No ceasefire in Zambo City

Defense Sec. Voltaire Gazmin said no ceasefire is being implemented on the ground in the stand off in Zamboanga City.

This after Vice President Jejomar Binay announced early Saturday morning that he got a commitment from Gazmin and Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) founding chair Nur Misuari to implement a ceasefire that would pave the way for a peaceful settlement of the conflict there, which is already entering its 6th day.

In an interview with ANC Saturday morning, Gazmin also said armed MNLF forces loyal to Misuari and government forces continue to exchange gunfire even after Binay’s announcement.

“What happened last night was when I talked to the Vice President, he said he can reach out to Misuari and (if we) would agree to a ceasefire. I said only if they can implement a ceasefire, meaning the armed forces stops firing only when they will stop firing. That was the essence of the ceasefire,” Gazmin said.

But he said the Misuari-MNLF forces “are firing as we speak, they are still firing.”

“It (ceasefire) has never been implemented in the first place,” Gazmin said. When asked if the fighting continues, he said “that is correct.”

The Defense Secretary also said he has not talked to Misuari.

Binay had also said he would be flying to Zamboanga City today to work out the peaceful settlement

Fontanilla..

Gov’t, Misuari agree on ceasefire starting Saturday midnight, says Binay

MANILA, Philippines—A ceasefire starting midnight of Saturday between the government and the Moro Nationalist Liberation Front-Misuari faction will take effect, Vice President Jejomar Binay told in TV interviews Saturday.

The government, represented by Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin, will seal an agreement with former MNLF chairman Nur Misuari for a ceasefire in Zamboanga City that will take effect midnight, Binay said.

Binale wala ang ceasefire agreement ni Epal.

    Philippine ceasefire doesn’t hold
Defence secretary says truce with MNLF rebels never worked hours after vice president said ceasefire was agreed.
A ceasefire has been broken hours after it was agreed, to end a stand-off between the army and separatist
    fighters in the southern Philippines.

Gunfire has been heard again on Saturday in the southern city of Zamboanga, where Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) fighters are holed up.

Al Jazeera's Jamela Alindogan, reporting from Zamboanga, said that there was earlier discussion that ceasefire has been agreed between the vice president and MNLF founder, but on the ground there was no letup in the fighting.

"We are hearing firing and mortars. The military, surrounding the area where MLNF fighters are holed up, still has not retreated," she said.

"The defence secretary in fact, confirmed that ceasefire has not been reflected on the ground and it has not been acknowledged at all."

On Friday, the Philippines' vice president said that a Muslim rebel leader had accepted a ceasefire to allow talks on ending a hostage crisis in which his followers had held more than 100 people in a southern port city.

The standoff began on Monday when about 200 fighters from a MNLF rebel faction stormed several coastal communities in Zamboanga city and seized residents.

Twenty-two people, including 15 rebels, have been killed in sporadic clashes between the armed group and troops who have surrounded them, the military said.

Vice President Jejomar Binay had said that rebel leader Nur Misuari had agreed to a truce late on Friday by telephone.

President Benigno Aquino III flew to Zamboanga earlier on Friday to visit government troops and some of the 24,000 residents displaced by the violence.

He warned in a speech that his government would not hesitate to use force to end the most serious security crisis his administration has faced since he came to power in 2010.

    Mortar fired

Fighting broke out again in Zamboanga's Santa Catalina village on Friday, and ABS-CBN TV reported that voices presumably of hostages were heard shouting "ceasefire, ceasefire!"

One government soldier was reportedly wounded.

A mortar fired by the rebels landed on a street in front of the government hospital in Santa Catalina.

The MNLF rebels have been overshadowed by a rival group in talks with the government for a new minority Muslim autonomy deal.

Misuari signed a peace deal in 1996, but the armed group did not lay down their arms and later accused the government of reneging on a promise to develop long-neglected Muslim regions in the predominantly Roman Catholic nation.

The government says Misuari kept on stalling and making new demands.

Misuari has not been seen in public since the standoff began.

"There are lines they should not cross," Aquino said of the rebels.

He said the government would use "the force of the state" if those lines are crossed.
