    MANILA - The chief of Zamboanga City Police was abducted by alleged Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) fighters on Tuesday morning, a police official confirmed. This, after more than 100 hostages of the MNLF rushed to safety as the guerrilas lost ground in the southern city.

    Zamboanga City Police chief Sr. Supt. Chiquito Malayo was abducted by the MNLF fighters in Arena Blanco area and was forced to ride a boat which was headed for Tictabon Island, according to Senior Supt. Edwin de Ocampo, logistics officer of Philippine National Police – Region 9.

    Malayo's abduction came just as the military was able to secure least 151 hostages held by the MNLF fighters in the past 18 hours.

    The hostages, who were earlier used by MNLF fighters as "human shields," either escaped, were rescued by soldiers, or freed.

    The standoff between the MNLF fighters and government troops entered its ninth day today. The rebels, followers of MNLF founding chairman Nur Misuari, laid siege to the city in an attempt to claim independence from the Philippine government. – report from Edwin Sevidal, dzMM

    What do you mean sir? Baka MNLF posing as hostages? Baka naman nanlaban, from what i hear sa magugulong lugar ng mindanao, yung baril parang accessory na yan

    Just curious: has anyone heard of the leftist/CHR groups complaining about the use of civilians as human shields? Isn't this a war crime?

    some of the fleeing mnlf men who posed as christian hostages even brandished rosaries. when the soldiers requested them to recite the Lord's prayer to confirm their claim, they suddenly went...nga-nga kaya ayon buko ang modus nila

    ^^ warzone talaga ang dating. somebody has got to pay

    even davao city has been struck by bombs last night. nobody knows if the conflict in zambo is connected w/ this (w/c is a big probability). duterte may be a fool to trust misuari's integrity
