Japan was also bolstering its defences around the disputed East China Sea islands after state media reported a flotilla of around 1,000 Chinese fishing boats was sailing towards them.
The Japanese coast guard said it has so far been unable to confirm the arrival of the fishing boats, but it spotted one Chinese fisheries patrol ship in waters near the disputed islands shortly before 7 a.m. (2200 GMT)
The Japanese government has set up an information-gathering operation to monitor the movements of the Chinese fishing boats.

Also many asians still view the Japanese with animosity, remember the massacre of Manila?
Various credible Western and Eastern sources agree that the death toll was at least 100,000,[1] tallying to around 10% of the population of the city. The massacre was at its worst in the Battle of Manila, in which the Allies shelled the city of Manila to drive out the Japanese. By the time the Japanese were driven out, the city was in ruins, becoming the second most destroyed Allied capital city during the war, the first being Warsaw in Poland.[2] During lulls in the battle for control of the city, Japanese troops took out their anger and frustration on the civilians caught in the crossfire. Japanese troops looted and burned, and brutally executed, tortured, decapitated and ***ually abused Filipino women, men and children alike, Red Cross personnel, prisoners of war and hospital patients.Last edited by Monseratto; September 18th, 2012 at 11:04 AM.

1,000 Chinese Boats to Sail Near Disputed Islands
Local news outlets say up to 1,000 boats will set sail from Fujian, Zhejiang, and other coastal provinces after a fishing moratorium on the East China Sea was lifted September 16. Each year Chinese vessels sail to the waters around disputed territory known in China as the Diaoyu Islands and in Japan as the Senkaku Islands. Authorities say the islands have been designated as a maritime patrol area to protect the safety of the fishermen.
