The Japanese government has set up an information-gathering operation to monitor the movements of the Chinese fishing boats.

1,000 Chinese Boats to Sail Near Disputed Islands

Local news outlets say up to 1,000 boats will set sail from Fujian, Zhejiang, and other coastal provinces after a fishing moratorium on the East China Sea was lifted September 16. Each year Chinese vessels sail to the waters around disputed territory known in China as the Diaoyu Islands and in Japan as the Senkaku Islands. Authorities say the islands have been designated as a maritime patrol area to protect the safety of the fishermen.

Uniqlo to close more China stores on Tuesday as demonstrations spread

(Reuters) - Japan's Fast Retailing said it will close more of its Uniqlo clothing stores in China on Tuesday as it expects anti-Japan demonstrations there to escalate.

Asia's largest apparel retailer said it will close 19 Uniqlo outlets in China on Tuesday, up from seven on Monday. One store will be operating at shortened hours on Tuesday, compared with nine on Monday.
