Well. Am not surprised. Both large Telcos are spending 1B $ each on CAPEX every year . This isnt even opex which is also huge. And margins are shrinking. Dunno what the biz case is for a 3rd telco.

Risky business talaga sa mga foreign telcos ang Phil. They are always at a disadvantage since they have no infra here. Plus, the headaches of permitting and stiff competition.

Criminal raps filed vs van occupant in Mandaluyong shooting

    18SHARES010

    (The Philippine Star) - January 11, 2018 - 12:00am

MANILA, Philippines — Police have filed criminal charges against one of the occupants of the vehicle fired upon by cops and barangay watchmen in Mandaluyong City last Dec. 28.?

Homicide charges were filed against Eliseo Aluad Jr., alias Bobot, 37, of Welfareville Compound before the Mandaluyong City Prosecutor’s Office.?

Aluad was charged for the death of his partner Jonalyn Amba-an, 35, who was one of two persons killed when groups of policemen and barangay watchmen or tanods peppered with bullets their vehicle at the corner of Old Wack Wack Road and Shaw Boulevard in Mandaluyong City.?

Police said Amba-an died not from wounds suffered during the shooting but from being shot earlier during a fight in their neighborhood involving Aluad. Amba-an was being rushed to a hospital by Aluad and several volunteers when they were fired upon by the tanods and police.

The case was filed by the Eastern Police District-Special Investigation Task Group-Shaw (EPD-SITG) with Supt. Enrique Agtarap, officer in charge of the Mandaluyong City Police and Chief Insp. Dominador Ignacio as nominal complainants.

Senior Supt. Florendo Quibuyen, SITG-Shaw chief, said the case against Aluad was anchored on the report of the Scene of the Crime Operatives, the autopsy on the casualties and the account of a witness – a certain Roderick Hife, a scavenger.?

Earlier, Supt. Isidro Carino, chief of Crime Laboratory, reported that Amba-an suffered multiple gunshot wounds in the head, trunk and extremities, which caused her death.

He also pointed out that Amba-an had a tattooing mark on one of her cheeks, indicating she was shot at close range.?

The SITG-Shaw investigation indicated that Aluad was shooting the group of Salam Adbul Majid and Abdurakman Alfin over parking at a construction site in Barangay Addition Hills when Amba-an tried to intervene and pacified him.?

During the scuffle, Aluad’s firearm went off and hit Amba-an in the left side of the head, the bullet exiting on the right side.?

It is actually a question of will i profit in this undertaking. Since the telco would need to shell out money first.

Also, remembered watching a couple of days ago (cant remember if on cnn or gma news tv) that realistic permitting would at least take 6 months to 1 year even if it is fast tracked.

The only remaining telco that has franchise is eastern telecom, but they are both owned by pldt and globe because smc bailed out.

nagtataka nga ako sa DICT...initially it said it wanted the 3rd telco to focus on the underserved areas, no/poor coverage, etc. Then after about a week, it then said that the 3rd telco should focus on broadband services.

I mean, even the local telcos are affected. I think it's also one reason why our cellphone and broadband services suck.

Doesn't make sense to me. I mean, it's 2018. What exactly are "underserved areas"? Those without landlines? Too expensive, too time consuming and too tedious with having to deal with various LGUs.

Kung broadband network, they don't even need a congressional franchise to put one up. If anything, they need an E.O. which would exempt them from getting the normal permits and licenses from LGUs or have them fast tracked, with the assurance that the broadband network would be commissioned and operational within 2 years.

Parang di ata alam ng dict kung ano talaga ang gusto nila.
Perhaps because they don't really have a full grasp of the situation/current problems?

Our fraternity booked a hotel in Subic August 2017 for a 2 day grand homecoming in January this year. We already paid the downpayment and the hotel guaranteed the schedule. But they cancelled the reservation in September citing a Chinese company booked the whole hotel for the next 3 years. It must have been a huge coup for the hotel as they not only refunded the money, they also gave us a compensation for the trouble and helped us get another booking at another venue.

    The DICT has no head.

They know what is needed. But they are hampered by politics and a President who is lobbying for specific "third players".

All those months sucking up to China Telecom... only to be given a shrug... now they're courting ZTE...

    Anyway...

    Where's that new secretary, Duts?

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
