That won't work. You cannot put a good person down.
I can only hope. The blanket argument that all LP members are bad is really getting old.

I've been puzzled by the sws survey results and happened upon this blog from Manuel Quezon III:

    http://www.quezon.ph/2016/12/28/the-...dom-from-fear/

He says the disconnect in the results seems to suggest polled people don't really give their honest to goodness opinion on issues but rather say what is perceived to be socially acceptable answers.

Are surveyed people really saying what seems fashionable at the moment? Have the trolls suceeded in painting a facade that most people are supportive of this admin? Or are they scared of saying anything against this admin?

I think support is still genuinely strong. I talk to messengers, drivers, pump attendants, and other working class citizens, and they unanimously support whatever the President does.

Of course 1 million ordinary folk count for nothing compared to the support of 1 kingpin. Thing is, Duterte has all the businessmen in check as they pander to him in order to secure their personal interests.

Probably so. It is just the disconnect I can't understand.

    From the link:

The recent December survey made the contrast even more vivid: a similar, thumping majority expressed satisfaction with the drug war (84%). A huge majority then saying they feared they or a loved one might end up killed (78%). Add to this a public either unsure of (42% undecided), or frankly disbelieving of (29%), the police (28% more or less believe the cops), and yet supportive of the president and his top people (85% satisfaction with administration’s efforts) while also saying they agreed there’d been a reduction in drug-dealing in their area (88%). A clear message: the jury is out on the police, while little culpability has been assigned to those who ordered the police to act.
They are satisfied with the drug war, yet fear themselves or a relative getting killed? They don't trust the cops and yet their commander in chief who gives out the orders gets zero blame? What am I missing?

Now the emboldened police feared to be behind ejks seem to have entered a new venture:

A great percentage of the population approves of the "war on drugs." That is given. And yet most, or a number, of them are apprehensive that they or the people related to them could be the next target. The most plausible reason for this is that, although we have a new president who enjoys the trust of the greater number of the Filipino people, a president who is so "different" in many ways from all the rest who governed the country, our police force and armed forces, who carry out this war, are largely the same. Even the PNP Chief and the Chief of Staff of the AFP are remnants of the past.

To win this war, he needs an Eliot Ness from top to bottom. Otherwise, the case of that Korean national in Angeles City was just the beginning.

On top of that, we have an admin that is borrowing more apparently, and wants to collect more taxes. How can we trust that with what we're seeing so far?

they'll realize their folly soon enough because prices of basic commodities are steadily on the rise. these guys will feel the pinch first and they'll feel it in 3D ( so to speak)

True to his idol's (FM Sr.) ways, incur large debts for infrastructure, kurakot the money on hand which can be used to pay it and have succeeding generations of Filipinos pay by way of increasing taxes.

Now that makes sense. I guess in the back of my head I always thought there are relatively few policemen involved in the trade. I never thought the majority could be corrupt. The prudent thing to do before going after drug lords, dealers and users then, should be to start cleaning house. Reinstating that Supt. Marcos sends the wrong message.

I liked the movie adaptation of Ness's life, "The Untouchables". It has both Robert De Niro and Kevin Costner. If only there were such a person here today.

Seems the DOT has changed its mind about the "It's More Fun In The Philippines" slogan/ad campaign, despite it being a "Dilawan" idea:

    This was in September:
PhilStar : DOT dropping ‘It’s More Fun in the Philippines’

This in November, and reiterated today by Kat de Castro:
CNN Ph: Tourism Secretary: 'It's More Fun in the Philippines' campaign to be 'upscaled'

Part deux of Tatad's column on the alleged covert trip to a Chinese cancer clinic.

"Indeed, there are so many rumors of a coup conspiracy against DU30. The most dangerous conspiracy, my foreign visitor reminds me, is the one you do not hear about, the one you do not see."
