Apparently, it wasn’t sauce for the gander
A FORMER election supervisor in North Cotabato tried to seek medical treatment abroad for a bone disease but was turned down by the Arroyo administration.
Nena Santos, a private prosecutor in the Maguindanao massacre case, said Yogie Martirizar, the former election supervisor who is among her clients, has been unable to leave the country to seek medical treatment since 2007 when she was placed under the immigration bureau’s watch list after she was tagged as among the officials involved in alleged fraud in that year’s election.
Santos said Martirizar, like former president and now Rep. Gloria Arroyo, tried to seek medical treatment abroad for a bone disease similar to Arroyo’s condition, but the Arroyo administration turned down her request saying she was under preliminary investigation at the Department of Justice for election irregularities.
"Even if the case was still in the preliminary investigation stage, they denied the request of my client. It is unfair. Gloria trampled on her rights then, and now Gloria is allowed to leave the country," Santos said.
"Bakit sa kanya (Arroyo) granted agad ang temporary restraining order pero sa kliyente ko since 2007 pa hindi makaalis?" she added.
She said Martirizar was placed under the watch list order (WLO) based on the same Department Circular No.41 which authorizes the DOJ to issue a watch list order against people being investigated by the department.
Martirizar is listed among witnesses in a complaint for election fraud filed last month by Sen. Koko Pimentel before a joint panel of the Department of Justice and the Commission on Elections.
Arroyo is among respondents in the Pimentel complaint that also named former Comelec chair Benjamin Abalos.
