there is a maximum puncture diameter, beyond which the tyre is unsafe for repair by patch.
when the tyre man says so, i follow his advise.
none of my cold patches have failed, yet.

sidewall punctures... by my experience, they're not typically 'round and small'. mine have been gaping wounds.

"too much flexing" for any repair to hold.
