Bow ako with the set-up na LCD.. it may also look like a rear-view camera... if it is, that'll be super cool!
I just visited a Nissan dealer and looked at the new Navara. The external design didn't blow me over like the Strada. But what I like the most is when you get inside and close the doors. It gives off a solid "fomp!" rather than the usual (but excellent) "thud!" It sounded more solid than the other pick-ups that i've been able to look into.
I was really intrigued with the 2.5 Diesel engine that the Navara has which produces a mind blowing 174ps and 403nm of torque. Our own strada doesn't even come close to these numbers and we have a 3.2 engine! I've been reading up on other sites and forums as well. It seems that the Variable Geometry turbo is the culprit for the huge power and torque rating. Many did mention that the Navara has a short power band, which means it peaks for a short moment and the peak power doesn't last long. This means that you always need to hit that "sweet spot" on your tachometer to maximize the truck's power versus other engines where the power and torque evens out longer, allowing you to stay on a gear longer. Thus the need for a six gear manual and 5 gear auto for the Navara. It helps manage the short peak of the engine. I looked at some stats and found out the following (listed below). Please note that all my assessments are mostly guess work based on the stats, I will still have to test drive it and confirm my theories.
Strada Manual gear ratio
1st: 4.313
2nd: 2.330
3rd: 1.436
4th: 1.000
5th: 0.789
Navara Manual gear ratio
1st: 4.692
2nd: 2.705
3rd: 1.747
4th: 1.291
5th: 1.000
6th: 0.827
Studying the manual gear ratio, you will notice that the Navara has a larger 1st gear which should give it more grunt than the Strada. The main difference is the 3rd, 4th and 5th gear of the Navara, each gear is close to each other. It may mean that Navara owners will shift quickly between 3rd to 5th, almost not being able really stay within a gear for too long. The end gear ratio is almost the same with the Strada having a smaller gear ratio. A smaller gear ratio means that you will use the engine less to cruise at higher speeds (except that it would have less punch or power).
Strada Auto gear ratio
1st: 2.842
2nd: 1.495
3rd: 1.000
4th: 0.731
Navara Auto gear ratio
1st: 3.827
2nd: 2.368
3rd: 1.520
4th: 1.000
5th: 0.834
The story with the auto is slightly different. The Navara has a bigger first gear. This gives the Navara a huge grunt above the Strada, which will be great in hauling a full cab of passengers and even a truck load of stuff up a mountain, the Strada might struggle a little bit more than the Navara given the same load. From there, everything seems to even out, the Navara's 2nd gear is almost the same with the Strada's 1st gear up until the last gear. On the last gear, the Strada has a smaller gear ratio, again giving the engine less work to maintain higher cruising speeds. Given the choice, I think the auto is the best compliment to the Navara's engine. You wouldn't want to fumble through 3rd to 5th all the time. Let the car do it for you.
In the end, it seems that the gear ratio will make the Navara engine work harder to maximize the power and torque ratings that Nissan has been raving about. While the Strada's would have an easier time coping with the demands we place on having fun with out trucks. Other sites and forums did say that the Navara consumed more diesel than the other trucks even with the smaller engine. Hmmm... some food for thought there.
Lastly, when I stepped inside, I was glad to find leather seats and a knob for the 2x4 to 4x4 function. The Strada would have been more refined and stylish if they followed the same thing. Other than that, I was dissapointed with the Navara's cabin. The dashboard "looked" stubby and short while the Strada has an extended feel (like that of cars today - for example the civic). Maybe perhaps the Strada has more slopped lines while the navara has a very boxy dash. The instrument panel is bland but the steering wheel does look macho tough, like that of the Ford Ranger. Seating in front was good. Yet the back was a little cramp, like all other pick-ups except for the Strada. The Strada seems to have the best rear seating room, although the Hilux has a good and high seating position which makes it very comfortable to sit at the back - if only the Hilux wasn't so bumpy. The rear windows for the Navara are very small and give you a further illusion of being cramp at the back seat.
Lastly, I do not get the permanently raised thin "walis ting ting" antenna that the Navara has. At a time where shark fin antennas and window strip antennas are the rage nowadays, I don't understand why Nissan would place an antenna that make the car look like a remote control toy I used to play with.
All in all, I still prefer the Strada. The Navara's engine (and by the way a limited slip differential that comes standard) is like mighty mouse on a saturday cartton show. You are amazed by it and you may like it for its sheer power and torque. But with most of it on the first gear and the end gear ratio makes your engine work more than the others to cruise on the highway... mighty mouse ends up a mouse with superpowers when you can actually be superman - refined *** appeal with superpowers under the hood.
I hope to be able to test drive it and confirm my theories about the gear ratios. =P
ur strada to my understanding has the LSPV- load sensing proportioning valve that balances brake power over load (guys, correct me if im wrong) that replaces the ABS+EBD feature. my friend from mitsu advised that the brakes, even without the ABS+EBD should still be good and linear!
i do agree with the consolidation of the Strada threads... when will this happen?i wish i had a strada to join the EB....

hi guys!
My first post here at tsikot! Nice to know that there's a thread for 2007 strada owners. I'm from La Union and I got my gls strada Feb. 2007. I installed 20" chrome rims with cooper tires, a kenwood indash monitor with dvd/stereo ( I removed the factory installed stereo ) and 2 sunvisor type lcd monitors to keep my daughter busy during long trips. I'm currently looking for a roll/slide type bed cover. Any idea on the price and where to get one? Thanks and Merry Christmas!
Very informative pards
They did test the Navarra and the 2.5 strada sa 5th gear yata
It's in youtube
I believe the navarra won because of the engine
I'm pretty satisfied w/ the 3,2's acceleration , it's the braking I'm worried about hehe
My strada is almost 2months old now , almost 5000kms
The shifting has become smoother now, I didnt know pati kambio may breakin
The lagitik is still there , a friend told me that was fuel knock
Doesnt affect performance but limalakas daw konsumo
I'll have it checked again
Alarm is still disabled , pain in the butt anyway
Only mods are a portable dvd and a removable bike rack
Might take it off road ( daang kalabaw )this weekend sa farm
We'll see how it does
sDang, ang ganda! how is the ride sir? I can only imagine what mine would look like on 20's.
I saw a Red Strada last week, no plates yet, GL model only, no rear bumper but with fender flairs and side door moldings to make it look GLS, and riding on 20's! My jaw suddenly dropped cause it looks so simple but oh so nice! Exactly what i'm looking for.. Looks similar to Rays TE37's except this one is dark silver. Took a picture of it while on Edsa. Will post the pic soon baka meron sa inyo nakakaalam san meron nito. Sana member din ng tsikot ehehe.![]()
hello again. dun pala sa alarm, pareho lang ba naka-install sa gls and glx models? may auto start din ba and turbo timer sa glx?

Strada Wicked Bumper
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Mitsu...sid=p1638.m118
Whoa! Nice bumpers! Where can I get one?
I was thinking of the Carryboy nudge guard, its either built with steel but doesn't match with the Strada design or built with fiberglass that might crack at the slightest nudge. That's why I didn't install any. Last night may nakasabay akong GLS and it looked eactly like mine, we had the same color and accessories. The only difference is that he had body cladding, the nudge guard and door visors. It looked good! That means my own truck looks good! hahaha!
Nice wheels edmeister! You just made me think about getting 20s myself!
Hello again! The 20's on my strada rides super smooth. I think tama lang for the strada. Anything bigger I thinK would look "cartoony" - just my opinion. It grips pretty well on tight corners especially during my frequent trips to baguio. Besides from the roll-type bed cover, I don't plan to add anything else on the exterior to draw attention to the rims. Besides, baka patayin na ako ni misis - dami na kasi nagastos hehehe...![]()
I was told by Grace at Carryboy that the reason bakit walang roller type bed cover is because the Strada has a slopped truck bed. The roller types need a straight truck bed (such as the Hilux, etc). Until someone discovers how to do a sloped rail for the roller truck bed cover... I think we will be stuck with the fiber glass version.
