New Mitsubishi Montero Sport [ARCHIVED]

Out of curiosity, I heard somewhere that all diesel fuel are the same no matter what oil company as opposed to gasoline fuel which have varieties and "enhancements" (whether true or just marketing ploys). Is this true? Is diesel fuel the same in Petron, Shell, Caltex, etc.? Where do you guys top up fuel for your Montys?

Yes this is true since oil companies buy fuel from each other especially when their respective stocks run low. And this is true for both diesel and gasoline. Gasoline is just 'enhanced' when they put in additives to make the octane rating higher and give the fuel type, say V-power or Blaze, a color different from the regular unleaded type.

Niteman was referring to the 22s I got for my Montys. Got it at Winterpine last week. The mags are chrome De Moda Concept DF1s. I don't think the brand's that popular here, pero maganda naman yung itsura eh, so okay na sa akin yun. I don't have any pics available yet, but I'll most probably be at the EB naman so I can show it to you.

Would love to see the 24s you put on your monty up close as well. I've been reading a lot of great stuff about how you set up your monty.

sir, i fuel-up at shell. i go to two selected stations only as much as possible. reasons are: i have a shell-citibank credit card which gives a 5% rebate, i never encountered fuel problems such as water deposits in the fuel from these selected stations, and i noticed that the exhaust does not emit black smoke when using shell diesel. i read before that someone used caltex diesel and his truck emitted balck smoke. he switched to shell and the smoke was gone. i think petron deisel is also good but i've never tried it yet on my monty. HTH sir!

Stubby, I testing on Caltexnow, i alway use Shell and do have the citi/Shell card...til last week........

I was travel along Quezon ave toward EDSA, that's one Jimney stop just infront of me to pick up customer, it was traffic at that time,i have to press hard to shift to other lane, when i look at rear mirror, the big big black smoke blow up, and it happen another Black Monty just behind me, i can feel that Black monty slow it down, and keep away from my car,because too much black smoke can make his car look darker...hahaha

I feel bad on that, it is not good to our enviroment, and also i all way complaint our LTO shall do something on that, and now my car also blow up black smoke...

From that i start to use caltex, hope it may cut down.....

Wow, someone's actually on 26s?!? I'd love to see that, too. Hehehe. Seriously, I've seen the pics people have posted of your monty from one of the shows, and I have to say sa pictures pa lang maganda na talaga. Nothing too extravagant - everything was done with excellent taste.

Heard you had your sounds set up, too, sir. I'm in the market now to have my audio upgraded as well. Pwede bang maki audition ng set up mo on Saturday? I'm really just looking to UP the sound quality of the stock system.

hey ching! the reasons i posted were based on personal experience. and as i mentioned, i only go to 2 shell stations almost all the time. these two stations are proven as far as im concerned to carry clean diesel. it may be possible that the shell station you went to carries contaminated crude. many years ago, i remember having gone to one shell station along katipunan, filled up my '96 lancer with unleaded fuel, then experienced loss of power and jerking whenever i accelerated. i later found out that the gas pumped into my car had water! plus, there are various reasons why a vehicle emits excessive black smoke, not just because of the kind of fuel pumped in. diesel vehicles are known to leave carbon deposits inside the exhaust pipe, causing a plume of black smoke to puff out at high rev. regular exhaust cleaning helps a lot to solve this problem.

so im not saying dont go to caltex or petron. its just that my personal experience tells me that the 2 shell stations i go to is ok so far and my monty is happy with the fuel they pump in.

ching, try to observe any difference after having switched to caltex. i hope the excessive puff of black smoke is gone. if so, stick to that station!
