my two cents worth:
1. depends. if you are driving around metro manila 80% of the time, you can get the GLS-V and use the savings to upgrade (leather seats, rims, tires, sound system, honeycomb grill, rear view camera, TPMS, etc etc). but if you are going to the province a lot where roads are rough or foresee going to rural areas, the 4wd system will be helpful
2. i have not experienced it. i tried a number of times to do intentional idling with aircon and use the lower diesel mix (petron diesel max) but still no smoke.
3. check the PMS thread for the cost. from my own experience, PMS is comparable to my 01 nissan patrol GU, AFAIK
4. can't comment on the rim size change and ride effect. i still have mine in stock. but i have seen some 20s and 22s and they look nice though. bagay na bagay sa monty

For me, I'd say the PMS cost is high, even with our strada. Labor ang taas and the parts ang layo ng presyo.
Naisip ko tuloy, yung pagka-mura ng Montero (for it's category) binabawi ata sa PMS.
Ho much more expensive than the others? Had my 5k kms pms last saturday and since labor is still free, I only had to pay for the 1liter of synthetic oil for topping which costs me 500plus pesos and a few more for rugs/misc items. All in all, I paid 1k plus pesos. On my next PMS, which is for 10k kms, it will have to be the whole changing of oil thing (which I actually intend to do when my odo reaches around 9k kms more or less). This should cost me around 6k more or less. As I am using fully synthetic oil, this should be good for at least 10k kms, but you need to do the regular changing of oil filter at 5k kms, plus oil topping if needed. The whole thing only costs me a thousand pesos more as compared with my xtrail.
disclaimer: i'm not guru. just a very satisfied MS GLS-V owner.
1. GLS-V. the GTV is nice, no question with that, but if you're driving on paved (and semi-paved) roads most of the time, you really do not need the 4x4. seriously, i think that the need for a 4x4 rig is pretty overhyped by rich kids with very expensive toys. if you go to the distant provinces, the regular rear-driven and overloaded jeepney regularly navigates the rough terrain. not to diminish the value of a 4x4, but for the typical juan, i think the GLS-V is more than adequate, if not capable.
2. happily, there was only this one time that my wife noticed that it was mausok. since then, its been pretty okay.
3. can't say much for PMS. just had my first 1K and okay naman ang presyo.
4. mags: i'm not a big fan of bling or of dub rims. if you're considering getting a 4x4 rig, then this question number 4 is a mystery. i can't imagine driving your 22's off road. i had 22's on my other truck till it had a flat. those tires are really expensive. since then, i'm sticking to stock rims. easier to maintain and better ride quality if you ask me.
1. GLS-V. Kahit pumunta ka sa province you don't need the 4x4, unless may balak ka na mag-join sa mga EBs for 4x4 at dadaan ka sa mga need ng 4x4 na daan. Question is with your FM, nangailangan ka ba need ng 4x4?
2. Not mine.
3. I have no idea but affordable naman, cheap.
4. 20's looks good but I prefer 17's or 18's para sa off-road look
1. GLS-V. GTV mas pogi pero you can upgrade your ride to look like it. may sukli kapa
2. honestly, i think my unit is. 3 weeks old monty, before i was on denial stage pa. pero after a while tinanggap ko nalang na ganun talaga. kasi dami narin nako nakita with same as mine.
3. n/a
4. 20"![]()
1. Having also graduated from a Pajero Fieldmaster, I'd say GLS-V especially for city driving. The additional 110 kg for the 4x4 transmission on the GTV will also impact your fuel consumption even on 4x2 mode.
2. Had my GLS-V for 3 weeks, and I haven't seen the "mausok" symptom that other people have. I've tested it on Shell Diesel and Petron Diesel Max.
3. N/A - still at 700km. But reading through the other thread on Montero PMS, the 1000 km PMS should range from 5k-6k using fully synthetic oil.
4. 20's would look good. But I prefer to keep the stock mags because of the better ride, and i don't like the extra attention of the bling

i had my MS less than 2 weeks and i've already had my 1st 1K PMS. all it took was one short trip to anvaya cove, and another to tagaytay, and -- voila! -- 1,000-km PMS here we go. for synthetic oil, it cost me just a little above P6K. had a very pleasant exprience at the casa. (a far cry from my previous experience/s with the other SUV.) looks like this one's going to be a keeper.
Thank you for the much appreciated inputs on my relatively novice queries about the MS.
Certainly learned a lot from you guys, I guess I am convinced to drop by my dealership early next week. I will try to negotiate the best deal I could have, I think I'll be getting the GLS-V, and will just upgrade it with CF spoiler, honeycomb grille, leather seats and probably a drop-dead honking Bosch europa horn.
I might enjoy the stock rims for a few months before getting some 20 inch snickers.
That thing about the additional 110kg of weight due to the 4x4 tranny that may also affect the FC is such a brilliant input. Thanks jclalzona.
Again thank you to all of you guys, whether you be a guru or a true blue Monty enthusiast. More [horse] power to all of you guys!
Simple lang, pag marami kang pera GT-V...pag hindi gaanong marami, GLS-V..:-)..peace
tanong ko lang guys, ano ba maganda brand ng HID para sa MS? saan maganda magpainstall? thanks guys.
Good luck..... going on 5000kms on my Monty and loving it.... got also the GLS-V. So far, the upgrades I've done are the CF spoiler, OEM side mirror turning lamps, backup camera, sound sytem, headrest monitors. Next project is the TPMS....not planning on changing the rims anytime soon, not a fan of chrome mags.
GLS-V for city driving then plow the "extras" into sounds or other bling-bling that might interest you. Who says that real men uses manual tranny? Maybe in the 90s, but in the 2000s with our era of PDKs and dual clutch trannys? Automatic has gone a long way!![]()
