Ss first job ko doc may course na kahit fresh grad automatic manager (ME ng Ateneo) kaya long running joke sa office na mali kami ng course (as if naman papasa kami sa ME lol) It is really a controversial issue at work kasi dami nila na bypass kasi before one becomes a manager may 5 levels as staff then 2 (or 3) levels as AM

In my experience wala namang “ME-only” roles. Everyone gets a fair shot at management trainee positions, but just so happens na sometimes majority ng nakukuha are from the same course/school.

During my whole stay at the company, we only had 2 ME hires and both from other departments. It's very controversial talaga because like I mentioned, to become a manager in our company you have to go through 5 staff roles and 2 or 3 AM roles first. Bakit ME lang may premium, UP BAA and DLSU LIA COM, hired as staff pa rin

Yung isa okay naman, but the other one became famous for being hated from Makati branch. Inapply mga management principles or theories sa work, nag compute compute and in order to drive efficiency up and or minimize costs pinabawasan phone/landline per staff (among other initiatives) this was the early 2000s ha (wala kami internet sa office), asar na asar mga employee, umabot sa Ortigas ang balita hahaha. I forgot what nickname he was called behind his back but something related to pa bibo hahaha. Feedback ng mga staff, yan ang napapala nila for hiring someone with ZERO work experience, isasalang agad as manager with so much power to implement things. Hindi kasi lahat natutunan sa theory.

Its been almost 2 decades at marami ng magbago, before they practically hire the top 3 schools exclusively, pero ngayon they hire from all schools na.

Our boss used to always tell us that they don’t teach anything important in school.

He would tell every batch of new grads

But he would still only hire from two schools. To be fair, they get a lot of applications so they have the privilege to choose.

"A Center of Excellence for Business Administration, the Management Engineering Program will abide by the program outcomes stated in pages 6-7 of the CHED."

We were chuckling because the course is very similar to my wife's Industrial Management Engineering(IME- Chen) course in DLSU...

Could be the reason why DLSU is now (only) offering Industrial Engineering vs past...

From my first-hand experience, there’s a distinct difference between IME and ME. IME is still closer to IE, still a more technical course. ME is really a business course with more rigorous math, OR, and OpMan subjects.

Pang-manager talaga orientation kay mabilis promotion. They are some of the best talaga since honor's course eh (like all honr's course kahit saan school pa), wala ka masasabi sa talino kapag graduate niyan. Real life performance is indeed different na. May ibang factors.

Reason why "Management" was dropped in the current DLSU course.

That's the spin.. As we also have been discussing profound People Management, Finance, Logistics, IT and MBA topics, too with our kid...

The person though has to have an appreciation and understanding, too, of the technical side to be an effective leader-manager. Not just numbers, as most often it is not just plain "no-brainer"...

Well, it depends on the organization...

it's been the same model thru the decades,
with only little updates from time to time.
today's first year student can get the anatomy textbook from thirty years ago, and still see no difference...

that's why annual conventions are a way of life to doctors.
and so are furrin trips "in aid of education".
it's actually fun! getting to see your colleagues over a dinner table... chatting with the gods who write your latest scientific journals.. being complimented by the leaders in the field for a nice article you wrote.. eating genuine chinese food (in HK, the food is genuine chinese.)
and bringing your spouse along!

All professions have to keep updated. Computer programmers, engineers, teachers, lawyers, etc. Kaya nga meron Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Points na nire-require sa PRC if you renew your professional license.

Slow news days and some editor needing to meet a quota siguro.

I agree this is not uncommon at all, and there are probably way more than the handful they reported who passed entry exams to the big Us.
