    Yes, it matters...

Alumni will always take care of their own.

I'm not saying its a must, iba pa rin ang good old fashioned har work. Pero may advantage ka palagi kapag galing ka sa specific school.

    Personal Experience:

Company A - guys from Top 4 schools received higher starting salary
Company B - Admin and support were ALL from an exclusive girls school, Law/Insurance Dept are ALL from Ateneo and San Beda, Operations - Top 4 Univ were preferred

Even now that I'm overseas... Grads from reputable schools have no issues in getting their employment pass. Those from the provinces, minsan renewal na lang nag kaka issue pa.

Ive been interviewing exclusively (for non specialist jobs) from Ateneo lately. Shrug. Im very realistic about these things. Im not too concerned if they stay 2 years or ten years. I am more concerned if they can do the job, be a self starter, speak and carry themselves exceptionally, not be pigeon-holed into a role, make kick ass presentations and most of all: not get intimidated by more senior pricks and drama queens in the office.

I find that the "speaking" part and the swagger part is very hard to teach. Ateneans are very good in bull shitting their way out of a mess. And since headcount is a rare and precious commodity nowadays, i make sure that not only can they do the job well, but they might as well make me look good while they do it. My team is a reflection of me. Such is office politics and life climbing up the corp ladder.

So yeah it matters especially for generic jobs such as marketing or sales or business development.

I still remember that old lady (back in Upstate New York) who recently immigrated from the PH. The very first thing she asked me was what college I graduated from. She didn't ask my name, how I was doing, how is the weather..... I told her, "I attained my degree from _____ State University and I'm currently working on my second degree."

Looking at me and my current coworkers..... We come from a variety of colleges and universities. I moved around a lot. The bulk of my education consisted of courses from four or five different institutions plus the one where I was awarded my degree. But, we all have one thing in common. All of us have extensive job experience with military weather (aviation or ground support).

As for the top institutions from the PH..... I can't speak for other countries or organizations. But, it's meaningless in my field. We look more at the actual content of the resume and see if it satisfies what we're looking for.

One constant is real-world experience has a much higher priority than college credentials.

Belongs to a school that asks for 120k+ yearly. And no, it doesn't matter. Mostly ha, swertehan nalang yan kung natipuhan ka ng HR.
