Spray some WD4O and use pliers if they still won't come off. If the caps get gnarled up, I just ask for one at my nearest vulcanizing shop.

The next 3 might look very similar to the Mazda Kai concept.

Engineering Explained latest video convinced me to use my M3's start/stop (aka i-Stop) system as much as possible.

Hows the battery voltage? 2L per hour of idling?

Start / Stop does not save that much fuel in a tropical country ... Weather is too hot ... In other countries, they have cold seasons ...

I'd like to see some stats and claims backed up with actual experience with using the start/stop system.

In my anecdotal experience, I did see a slight increase in fuel economy (around 0.5 km/liter or less) but my usage of i-Stop is limited only around BGC and some areas around QC. At my daily drive along Commonwealth and C5 with horrendous stop and go driving conditions, I don't use i-Stop. Still, fuel economy is quite good, around 8km/liter for a daily 70km drive with 3 to 4 hours of hellish traffic conditions for one route.

Plus... does the cost of battery, its deterioration & the wear/tear of the mechanicals that support start/stop make up for the amount of fuel you lose by idling?

I recharge my M3's battery weekly with CTEK. I reckon that can help lengthen the batts life.

Wear/Tear with engine support and other mechanical parts due to usage of i-Stop is speculative and perhaps just a f.u.d. I don't think the Mazda engineers are not smart enough not to take these into considerations.

I don't doubt the engineers of mazda or any other brands that also has start/stop systems.... it's just that our traffic situation in the Philippines is really one of a kind. Even our so called city driving is very different from where all these cars were studied and developed.

People forget Start/Stop systems were not built for savings but for the environment. They just market fuel economy a bonus.[emoji4]

Actually, Start / Stop engine design is primarily to comply with emission regulations in some countries ...

Yep start/stop/i-stop is for environmental regulations with an added bonus of fuel economy.
Personally, "i - stop" caring about fuel economy especially here in the metro. Traffic sucks! And since I'm driving a car with a Skyactiv Technology, I know I'm saving fuel.
BTW, the noise from the front driver side of my M3 is caused by a damaged engine support. It was replaced and now feels and sounds brand new again. Zoom zoom...
