    Sir diesel_newbie,

I appreciate the time you have spent in posting these "items" about the sportage.. Actually I am really convinced in getting the Sportage CRDi. I am choosing between the RED and BROWN color cause of the Beige interiors I prefer..

Before, I really fell in love with the Sta Fe but due to financial constraints on my part, I was made to choose among the Compact SUVs available at the 1.2M level. And the Sportage is the closest SUV next to Sta Fe that I fell in love with. I also considered the Tucson and Outlander but the Sportage far outweighs these 2 suvs in terms of the things I was looking for to replace my Xtrail..

I hope that this December, I will be able to purchase the Sportage from Kia Libis.. So I will be able to join the owners here in giving actual experiences of the Sportage..

Would appreciate your continued inputs guys.. Hope you guys will continue to make this thread as active as the thread of Sta Fe, Fortuner and Tucson.. More power to you guys.

Sir I believe that the gasoline variant has a JVC as head unit whereas the Diesel variant is equipped with a Clarion. Different ang features.

Anyway to share my own settings with the Clarion, i turn on the Ex-Bass feature, set the EQ to custom, up the Bass to +5, Mid -4, High to +7. Volume up to 30 depending on the type of music or normalization of the songs. With these settings, it's like having a subwoofer. Try and listen to Tuck Andress play Man in the Mirror. Wow talaga.
I believe what makes the music sound good, besides the good head unit and speakers, is because of the good sound insulation of the unit.

    Tip when burning CDs
Use a well known brand CDR/CD-RW. These are thicker and therefore heavier than the cheap/generic ones which are prone to skipping especially when burning mp3's.

Tama si Geren. My CRDi unit has a Clarion unit installed in it. As for the settings, nothing fancy really. Up the bass and the treble to max, set the equalizer to "Impact" and turned on the Magna Bass Extend feature and viola, kulang na lang mirrorball. Did made a lot of difference kasi nga when I got the unit eh ang sama ng tunog ng di ko pa na-a-adjust yung settings.

To the Sportage CRDi owners out there who haven't read their manuals (yet), I picked up this small info that might help to prolong your engine's life (from page 4-6 of the owner's manual):

Required idle time for engines equipped with a turbocharger inter cooler:
    1. Normal driving - not necessary
    2. High-speed driving/Up to 80 KPH - about 20 seconds
    3. High-speed driving/Up to 100 KPH - about 1 minute
    4. Steep mountain slopes or continued driving in excess of 100 KPH - about 2 minutes
Warning: Do not turn the engine off immediately after it has been subjected to a heavy load. Doing so may cause severe damage to the engine or turbo charger unit

WOW, kakatuwa naman at click din dyan sa atin ang sportage. Syang lang mga SIR at walang CRDi variant dito sa Dubai. What's available though are 2.0 & 2.7 V6, choice of 4wd or 2wd. Mine is exactly a month old now and already registered 3,025kms. puro long drive kc. I got the 2.7 V6 4wd. I'd say KIA has come a long way. M just wondering, as i read your posts, dami pa lang tinanggal na standard feature dyan sa atin, like TCS, airbags, ABS, weel anyway alam nyo nman satin, tsk..tsk.. But hey.... it still is a great CSUV...

Oooops, how rude of me.... di man lang ako nagpakilala, speed po....

Thanks for all your posts - they provided additional reassurance for me to also make the decision to finally buy the Sportage crdi. I am getting my unit released tomorrow. Tough decision, since P1.120m is big investment in a vehicle. And considering that I have had 2 Hondas (1st gen CR-V and 2005 Accord) and a Toyota Fortuner most recently, I had some concerns about buying a Kia. After test driving all my prospects (which included the new CR-V and X-trail - both 4x2 which was all my budget can afford), comparing the features and now reading all the posts, I decided on the Sportage crdi: 4wd (sporty and control), diesel (more economical than the gas) plus all the good features it provides (leather side doors and seats), good interiors, and neat engine lay-out (which is the least one should be concerned about - the powerful torque that the diesel engine provides is paramount). Will keep everyone posted about my experience too.

For all you guys who come across this thread, I'm pretty sure you're considering the Hyundai Tucson apart from the Kia Sportage as these two are very practical buys, in my opinion. As a tip so that you can compare these two (practically) side by side, visit the showrooms of Kia and Hyundai along Macapagal Avenue near SM Mall of Asia. I think both dealerships are owned by the same entity. This way, when you look at one over the other, your impressions and info of one is very fresh when looking at the other, and you can go back and forth between the two dealerships if there are still questions on your mind. These two dealerships are right next to each other so it's just a few steps crossing from one to the other. Happy hunting!

Hi guys! New here. Found this helpful thread. Actually was also torn between the Tucson and Sportage... but now more inclined towards the Sportage (vs the Tucson) :D

Noticed though when I visited Kia Marikina, the Sportage doesn't have splashguards/mudguards on them right? Can't recall whether the Tucson has...

Also, which dealership would you recommend for the Kia? Does the undercoat(rustproofing?) come standard or would I have to haggle for it?

Thanks in advance hopefully I'll also become a member of your Sportage Club soon :D

i also noticed that all kia/hyundai suvs do not come with mud guards anymore.. but the casa do have them for extra charge, around 2t to 3t for all fours.

all kia dealers offer the one price policy so wherever dealer you go, you get the same discount and freebies.. i guess it's better to go to the dealer with the best after sales service (best service area) and nearest to your place..

i have been talking with kia libis/silver city near tiendesitas and i am satisfied with the sales executive, although their service center is located far at floodway pasig..

    Thanks yourman!

Btw, my wife and I were able to testdrive the sportage crdi this morning at kia marikina. We took turns at the wheel while the other one would ride at the backseat. It was very noticeable that the ride at the back was "matagtag" while the ride infront was quite good. Even my wife noticed it.. Although I've read that it "may just been a case of overinflated tires", it did quite worried me.. especially now that we've quite decided on the sportage..
Would like to ask all sportage crdi owners if this is really the case or would the ride "improve" once the correct tire pressure is used...

Thanks for the info in advance

I would suggest that you check (and adjust) the tire pressure and do a test drive again.

If you finally decide to get a Kia, you might find this site useful.
