So far wala naman (knock on wood), maganda performance para sa akin, there were improvements sa accelaration.
Here are some Small things that i appreciate.
1. The front cup holders are very functional. Holds cans securely but still easy to reach out.
2. Very quiet ang interior especially for a diesel engine.
3. At any speed from 10 to 120, pag diniin mo ang gas pedal, hahataw ang sasakyan, walang kabitin when overtaking.
4. In the front passenger seat there's a big handle which at first i find na parang out of place, only after sometime when my kid wanted to adjust the leg room, did i realize what it was for.
5. Maganda ang bagsak ng hood pag sinasara, solid, like closing a door.'
6. Nice sounding stereo with lots of heavy base.
7. warning light on the console whenever the rear window is open
8. Riding Comfort
9. Build quality. Makapal ang kaha. Very Solid.
Wish list naman
1. Bigger front compartment.
2. a beep to remind me if ever naiwan kong nakasindi ang headlights when shutting down the engine.
3. six speakers instead of four.
4. airbags
Overall I'm very happy with my car. Medyo nag seselos na si Misis. He-he-he
Just found out recently. Instead of a chime or a warning sound that you will hear when you leave the headlights on and turn off the engine, the Sportage does it differently. When you pull out the key, the headlights remain on, but as soon as you open the door, the headlight goes off. It will turn on again as soon as you insert the key again. Good enough for me.![]()
OO nga pla. Almost all KIA / Hyundai models ata meron naman feature nito. Although my Picanto pag Inalis yung key yung headlight lang namamatay. Yung fog lamps minsan bukas parin. This is I think hiwalay yung wiring nito hindi factory installed.
I found more pics of the 2008 face lift sportage.

More personal info on the crdi variant after my first 1000
I had my change oil for the first 1000. Kia Service center in both Libis and Pampanga told me that my first service should be at 5000 km but i insisted because i know that it will not harm my car anyway, although masakit naman ang bulsa ko. I did both soft and hard break in, so i feel that kahit paano ay meron nang mga unwanted bits of metal na umiikot sa oil. May nakasabay ako na nagchange oil ng Carens sa first 5000, and as i was allowed to loiter in the service area, i observed that the oil that came out of the Carens ay maiitim na talaga ang kulay. I observed also that yung akin ay medyo nag-itim na rin kaya okey na sa akin na gumastos ako, i feel justified sa desisyon ko. Naki-check na rin ako sa unit ko as it was lifted up. No leaks on the shocks and everything. The unit has an undercoat as claimed by the dealer. Sabi kasi free undercoat unlike sa Tucson na pinagpipilian ko noon na i will have to pay additional 5,000
Anyway, 6 liters na Petron oil ang naubos. Changed the oil filter plus gasket. Total cost plus labor Php 1,860.80
Tip: If possible, bigyan mo beforehand yung mechanic ng tip para masipag mag check up ng unit mo. Giving tip after the service to the mechanic ay wala ng kwenta IMO.
As for the performance of the unit after the first 1000, no complaints. Everything's working as it should. I was able to get around 165 km/hr sa nlex on my way to the service center (No vibrations at maganda pa rin handling although meron nang wind noise na maririnig). Be posting soon kung meron improvement sa FC and max speed.
Hi Geren, I am now seriously getting a 4x4 Sportage just like you did. How is it after a month? Has the 10 kpl fuel con. improved? Any rattles so far?
Is the ride harsh/matag-tag, baka di kasi ako makatagal sa long-drives? By the way, does it have iPod / aux in?

Hi strutot, kumusta na sportage mo? Has the FC improved? Ok pa rin handling?
Hi fore, how's your sportage so far? Sino sa inyong dalawa ng Tucson-office mate mo ang mas satisfied sa purchase?![]()
Went to see the Sportage at Kia Silver City.. they had a black unit in display, wow, it looks good compared the the previous model.. i was lucky to test drive it, although just for a short distance..
it was the CRDi 4x4 and it runs like my 2.0 xtrail.. the handling was a little stiff than my xtrail but the ride is as good, not too soft but not too hard. The leg room and headroom is just as roomy as the xtrail, but the trunk space is a bit smaller.
i liked the leatherette fabric combination of the seats plus the leather sidings of the door.. i also liked the high end 2-din clarion stereo plus the 4 speakers, which gives a rich bass sound. adding tweeters will make the sounds superb..
the dashboard needs the addition of a silver accent or wood panel as add ons to improve its looks.. the controls are comparable to other suvs and the guages are a cool green color..
according to the sa, the fc for the crdi would be 12 li/km for city driving and 15 li/km for highway with top speed of 160 kms.. good enough for a 2.0 crdi.
although it would have been better if they put the vgt 2.0 li crdi on the carens that packs more horses.
also, kia should have equipped it with at least driver side airbag..plus hte steering wheel looks and feels cheap..
over-all, with the its price of 1.120M with free lto and compre ins, this is a very good deal..
i hope owners of this great suv would post their actual experiences and fc for the benefit of would be buyers. thanks.![]()
the sportage's crdi has the old intercooler turbo while the carens has the new variable geometric turbo. the intercooler turbo is engaged on a certain level of the rpm, say at 2500, the turbo kicks in while the vgt kicks in as soon as you step on the pedal, hence, the higher the torque at all levels of the rpm, making it more powerful and more efficient..
hyundai sta fe uses the vgt also..
i really believe that crdi vgt is the future of engines, specially the continued rising oil prices..
the sa disclosed that kia wanted to have the edge over other compact suvs in terms of price by removing some of the safety features like the airbags and vgt crdi..
After 3000 + km
No rattles, Improved top speed 168 kph with aircon on. Still no problems.
Ride is as expected on an suv. Pag malalim potholes or road cracks of course ramdam mo, but you know that the shocks are good, hindi sumasayad. The sound is like the thud on a hard rubber and not the sound of hitting metal or hard object. If you do happen to hit a deep pothole or hit a hump on a road while driving fast, di ka naman maangat or bounce around the car. Im sure di ka mapapagod sa long driving. Baka nga gusto mo laging mag long driving like me.
Went to a pinatubo resettlement area where the road is terrible. Off-road (part rocky road, meron din part na clay ang daan at malalim ang butas, meron din deep mud, and meron din bagong tambak na sand na hindi pa nadaanan ng ibang sasakyan about 1 foot sa thickness.Had to lock the 4WD most of the time Di pwede ang kotse, pang suv lang talaga yung daan. The unit performed very well.
After the experience - still no rattles and straight to the car wash.
As for the fuel consumption, di ko masabi. Pag sinusubukan ko kasi mag tipid driving (under 90 kph) nangigil ako magpatakbo ng mabilis
Wala pa ring problema whatsoever.
