I'm deciding between a Kia Sorento Diesel and a Ford Escape 2.3. Both are 2005 models, both have generally the same features and both are within the P1 million price tag (with Escape a little bit more expensive by 90k). The only things that I think would separate them would be the engine, after-sales service and resale value. Considering the three mentioned, which one would fair better? Hope you guys can share your thoughts. Thanks!

truckman, I am located in the province, not in metro manila. Am sure that one of those kia dealers in manila would also have a test unit, uso na yan ngayon, maski yung new toyota hilux, they hav provided a test unit.
Lapu, I did ask, especially with the side view mirrors and rear trunk cover. Pwede daw, pero di niya alam how much. Since he couldn't give a price, I assume sales talk pa lang.

By the way, the 4wd is not lever type that you usually have beside the stickshift, its a knob switch located at the to the left of the steering wheel, below the speedometer console.

bmdelrosario, anything diesel would have a better resale value than a gas model at this point in time. With after sales service, that is suspect with kia, but I heard Wheels is good. Meron yatang Wheels in Sta Mesa, near your place.

Altec, thanks for the info. Will check out Wheels. Pahabol lang, is there a negative aspect to diesel engine versus a gas? Sorry, I've never owned a diesel engine vehicle before. Thanks.

normally, every change oil you spend more with diesels than gas, due to more engine oil capacity, and more expensive oil filters (minsan double filters). 2nd, mas obvious ang diesels when it comes to smoke belching. 3rd, diesels need a bigger battery than gas, = mas mahal. 4th, top speed/acceleration is much lower. Yun yung mga negatives that I know of. Then of course, there are the positive...

Thanks altec. The "positives" being savings on fuel and ...? I'm surprised that you didn't put vibration levels. Are diesels that good nowadays that it feels like gas?

yung vibration levels are more applicable to the conventional indirect and direct injection diesels. Yung crdi, is much quieter, that's why I didn't put the vibration levels. It's still not the same as a gas engine, but compared to the direct injection models, malayo na ang crdi. Positives, much better pulling power, better fuel economy, aside from price differential between gas and diesel. Lifespan of a diesel engine is at least double that of a gas engine.

i dont have a sorento. but as far as i know the diesel variant that kia is offering is a "base" model, meaning a downscaled version (less features) of the gas variant.

The single belt thing can be argued both ways pissword

It doesnt bode well for redundancy in emergency cases, but is better maintenance wise because your'e just looking after a single belt.

Personally, i prefer the multi-belt setup.

I think the gray market is filling up the demand for 'higher end' Sorento Diesel models. I saw one recently and it seemed to have the ASPAC (a gray market dealer) sticker on the rear glass.

Even the local LX has good equipment levels.

    Booo hoooo hooooo

Ang daming naka sorento sa office ko. Ako wala pa!!!!!! I test drove the sorento in the office parking lot last december (malakas kasi ako sa signet las pinas). Tapos yung neighbor kung office nakita nila so they test drove it too. That same day I called my cousin to tell him na I test drove the Sorento.

Ayun before new year tatlong kakilala ko naka sorento (black, white, at silver)!!!!!

But I test drove both the manual (my cousin's) and the automatic's and I must say that both are very good to drive. Smooth and quiet engine. Not too soft but not to hard ang feel ng ride. It takes the uneven roads and humps very well.

My personal preference is the manual because like my carnival I get total control of the engine speed and tranny output. Plus as a tech guy I like the simplicity of a manual tranny.

btw some dealers are offering for a 100K more... halos lahat ata ng accessories sa gas variant na sorento ilalagay sa diesel variant

Kia ang Ssangyong have no relationship. But they do get a lot of parts from a common supplier.

Single (serpentine) belt systems are less complex, and are more efficient. It is also cheaper to maintain because you only have one belt to replace. However, I'm still a multi-belt guy. hehehe.

Hindi lang Kia ang nagtaas. Have you seen the latest Pajero prices? Boo hoo hoo...

CRDi nga yata yung makina ng Sorento Diesel. Medyo ingat lang, with the quality of diesel fuel here, baka bumara yung injectors.
