Just want to share a problem I had a few months back, and the solution I used. Just in case someone else runs into the same problem.
Upon pulling out the remote from my pocket and pressing the shiny button, I was surprised to discover the key missing. It was inside my pocket. Upon examination, it seems the small hollow retaining cylinder (visible at remote/key junction) somehow became dislodged allowing the key to fall out. I tried turning the key in the ignition by hand but it was very difficult. So I reinserted the key into the remote slot and turned on the ignition. Without the retaining cylinder to keep it snugly in position, the key had wiggle room, and the twisting of the key in the ignition subsequently caused part of the key holder to crack, and eventually be fractured.
I complained to Kia Las Pinas citing a probable factory defect, and asked for a warranty claim. The owner Mr. EC Camacho was (as always) very accomodating and agreed that it shouldn't happen. He filed a claim with Kia (Korea) but later reported that claim was denied, with Kia saying that they never had this problem before (SO?? Kasalanan ko ba yun?) EC again tried to help me by filing another claim for me, making it appear I was another customer, to give the impression it wasn't an isolated incident. After a couple weeks of waiting, same result. DENIED CLAIM. I then found out that the cost of getting a new unit is an astounding 6K!! I'm not gonna pay for that amount! In fairness to EC, he generously offered to split the cost of replacement, but 3K is still too much for me. We (the warranty officer and I) tried to look for a solution to my problem, but all the key duplicators I went to didn't have the kind of blank key needed, and one that did didn't have the machine to carve it. Meron daw machine somewhere in MOA but I didn't bother. What I tried was Pioneer Durasteel steel-filled epoxy: I first prepared the bonding surfaces by roughening them with a dremel grinder bit. Then I put copious amounts inside the cavity, and on the edge of the fractured fragment. After 24 hrs setting, fully bonded. I've tried using it a few times, and it seems to be sturdy enough. But I'm now using the other key/remote, and keeping the repaired one as the spare. FYI lang, heads up
