    hi guys,

I just registered now. Very new to this forum indeed...I'm still finding my way around. I'm about to buy my second car. I've narrowed my choice between the new civic and the d max. I like both. But I figure out, I can do more with a d max than with a civic. A pick up will definitely help me lead a more active lifesyle...like working my dogs. But my impression is that a pick up ages faster than a sedan (i don't know if this is true). My main concern is that in about two to three years' time, how would a d max look (and perform)? I don't have any plans to sell whichever car I would eventually end up with (too early). Between the two, I know that it should be a compromise on my part. Anyway, I'm soliciting from you d d max strongest and weakest points...engine performance, finish, rattling sound, shocks, aircondition, ride quality, overall condition of the car, etc. Thanks in advance!

    Welcome to Tsikot.com sir!

Napagbaligtad niyo ata sir. It's the sedan that ages faster than the pick-ups.

Why? Because sedans are subject to the whims of fashion and what is 'uso'. A truck on the other hand is built for a purpose and is not very much affected by trends in fashion and with what is 'uso'.

A Civic will be replaced by a new model in 5 years (you can bet your life on it). A truck's lifespan is not as short. An 8-10 year model run is not unheard of in this category.

Trucks are also built tougher with heavier duty components to withstand commercial usage. As an added plus, most truck parts are serviceable (e.g. there are grease fittings on the suspension, not the 'sealed type' parts on cars; shocks can be replaced easily, etc.). Unlike car parts which are usually sold as 'assemblies' and can be difficult to repair when damaged.

    Jet A1:
    Welcome to Tsikot.

The notion that Pick-ups age faster than a Sedan is due to the fact that these are utility vehicles and if used as such MIGHT deteriorate faster.

However these are ladder frame, diesel-fed engines made to withstand major beatings compared to sedans. Rough roads and floods are its eveyday route and as many would say...its home.

As for the looks, I personally like the squarish tonka design of the Dmax. Compared to the ***y and futuristic lines of the hilux and strada, the Dmax has a safe design that will give an ageless impression among enthusiasts (hey look at the gen1 L200 Strada....it still looks good after all these years).

I share the same sentiments. WHen I buy a vehicle, I build on it and keep it for as long as I can. Just do the recommended pms of your rig and you will have no problems.

    As for the Dmax:
Power is more than enough. Overtaking is easy and engine response is given the moment you flick that pedal. Ride is not as bone jarring as the hi-lux even if bed is unladen. Aircon is way better than its predecessors'.

Owners encountered the usual problems but were easily remedied (read thru the pages).

IMO, get a pick-up truck and dump the sedan idea. As for what truck to get...hey you posted in the Dmax Owner's Thread...guess what I and other owners would recommend? Hehe...

Good luck on your future rig sir!

    Welcome po to Tsikot!

I guess otep and djerms have said it all. I suggest that you try driving a Dmax at your local Isuzu Dealer and you will instantly know why we love our Max. The interior feel is very car like (especially the short stick in manuals). Acceleration is superb, just like gas! .

    Engine? It's an Isuzu baby.

I have a Civic myself but I haven't spent quality time with since I got my Max. I use it daily because fuel consumption wise it is hard to beat, then I get to park on areas too rough or high for a car. In fact, I never had this much fun driving since my Pajero .

Ride quality, well, it is a Pick-up. We can't compare that to the Civic or any car for that matter. But this is part of the fun in owning one; you get to put-on mods in suspension and so on while still beating the hell out of a gravel road no sedan can even dream of crossing (or jumping over hehe).

And oh, your dogs will love it too .

Also, pick up means legendary reliability (esp ISUZU). ang kotse madaling malaspag. resale value is much higher compared to sedan. I have my 2003 lancer. ngaun parang nagsisisi ko bakit kotse pa nabili ko nung tym na un. malakas sa gas. inisip ko nga nun sana hindi na pala sedan nabili ko. don't br fooled ba CIVIC. maganda lang sa umpisa ang kotse, one year after, out-dated na..

Didn't know about this until now. Thanks OTEP. I guesst this will equate to a more economical and easier maintenance in the long run.

How about the AT Memphis? If I'll get a d max, my initial pick kc would be an automatic.

I can't believe this at first. My thoughts were the bigger the ride, the higher the fuel consumption, diesel or gas! I only found this out after talking to a couple of people I know who own diesel engined vehicle. But I still didn't expect it to beat the civic! Very nice to know, Memphis. Actually fuel consumption factors very well in my choice that's why I initially pick a civic. Now I know.

I completely agree. The d max looks way tougher than any other pick up...which is what a pick up is supposed to look in the first place. Aside from being pricey, I feel toyota took too much gamble on their new hilux in terms of overall appearance.

I like this one. What's IMO, by the way (sensya na )?

You guys made pretty strong arguments for the d max. But if I may insist, what is in the d max that you don't like (don't get me wrong on this, I myself like the d max very much but rides are never perfect or else newbies like me wouldn't have a tougher choice.) Thanks again!
