yan din po sentiments ko sa tucson. although madami good reviews, its totally devoid of safety features except seatbelts! and although most hyundai dealers now are offering 30-35k discount + free lto, im also considering sportage coz it had abs

I decided to get a Hyundai Tucson gas 2WD automatic when I saw one, because it was ***y and macho at the same time.

Made initial research at yahoo autos. The base price for a gas 2WD automatic was around $18,000 (P950,000), and this came with 6 airbags, ABS, cruise control and accessories like cargo net and cargo cover. The price here for the same unit was P948,000 but without the abovementioned items. When the CRDi (P1,078,000) came, apparently it wasn't available in the US (there are no diesel cars in the US) maybe because diesel engines were noisy, with vibrations and won't pass the US strict emission control which was my bad experienced when I owned a Hyundai Starex. But then again with the high gasoline cost, I decided that maybe I can still own a diesel SUV. There isn't really enough reviews on the CRDi that is why I was still hesitant. Some said that the CRDi technology was quieter like a regular gas engine. When I went to the hyundai dealer to check on the CRDi, it still had the same diesel engine noise, but the dealer said that you can't hear it inside. Duh! But what about if I have my windows open??? Hehehe. Pilosopo ba?

Then I checked the Honda CRV Select automatic (P1,050,000) which came with air bags and ABS.

Now, price came into consideration, not just the ***y and macho look (there's just too much CRV on the road that you won't get a second glance!).

So I researched again in the internet and found this Forum. There was just so many good postings on this Forum. But then not much is said on the CRDi. I was now convinced to get the Tucson, but still could not decide whether to get the cheaper gas 2WD automatic or the CRDi 2WD.

Now, add to my selection woes, Ford came up with the discounted price of Ford Everest at P999,000! But somebody told me that this is just an ASEAN car with a pick-up chasis and engine. Is this true?

Guys, can you help me out? I'm desperate!

    1. What is it gonna be? Tucson Gas, Tucson CRDi, Honda CRV or Ford Everest? Any comment from Everest owners?

    2. If its finally the Tucson, should I get Gas or CRDi? Can I get some reviews of Tucson CRDi owners? Can you convince me on buying a diesel engine again? What about noise, vibration and smoke emission?

    3. Finally, if I get a Tucson (gas or CRDi), I found out that if you go to different hyundai dealers in metro manila, they all have the same price, but others offer some discounts not on the base price, but on the total cash out. They also offer different amounts for the insurance, chattel mortgage and even the 3-yr LTO registration. Can you guys help me out on best dealer to get the best deal? If its confidential, maybe you can email or PM me directly...

Thanks and more power to this Forum!
When I finally decide and buy a Tucson, i'll sure want to join your Club!

If you love to contribute to the fresh air that you should breathe, go for the gas. Everyone is saying that that diesel is now quieter... blah..blah and cheaper but no one ever mentions about its effect in the environment. Here in the USA, it never passes strict emission standard, I doubt that the diesel there
will always be the same the way it used to be, no matter how it is called. Only in the Philippines! sabi nga nila. Everything is possible.

There are USDM versions of the Mercedes E-Class, VW products (including the new Beetle), Jeep Liberty, and the usual full size trucks previously mentioned.

Most are not 50 state legal (not legal in states which have Cali emissions) and some are not currently available following changes in existing emissions standards. MB will return to the diesel market with its Blu Tec diesel technology.

The Tucson does meet diesel standards for Europe where a large chunk of the vehicles on the road are diesels.

You get what you pay for. That's why they offer the 4by 4 and 4 by 2. But I still chose the 4 by 2. Far compared with the cars here in the US but no regrets at all and still 100% happy and satisfied with it.

If they offered a totally speced out Tucson at an outrageous price, malamang nakakawalang gana din.

At least Hyundai offers a choice between bare and full boat. Yun nga lang, only diesels are available at the upper end of the spectrum with the gasoline variants filling in the lower end.

That's where it's cousin, the Sportage comes in. Low price, ABS/SRS, and gas engine.

You cannot compare how products are produced between these countries. The fact that there is a recall, a warranty for 100 000 mi, an excellent quality control, competition, etc....etc here in the US.
It's like comparing apple from orange. Nonetheless, I should have not chosen my hot Tuc.

Hahaha . . . I thought the same thing. I picked a diesel because i am hopeful that a well maintained diesel suv would have a better resale value.

I did test drive the everest and the crv (old versions), and they really felt sluggish whereas the sportronic shifter of the hyundai, gave the drive a little more spirit.

I was considering a tribute also, but again the diesel / sportronic shift won over safety. Personally I tend to drive slow and in the city, so the features didnt seem as important.

    To Leovl,

Hello! I have a Tucson CRDi diesel A/T.

As for the CRV - May lumabas na CRV na 2007. Maybe you can chack that out first before you decide. Although, mahal yung 2007 model, nasa P1.4 pataas daw

The only comparable model to the Tucson is the Kia Sportage. Sabi nila, the backbone structure of the Hyundai is the same as with the Kia. I don't know anything on the Sportage.

Yesterday, there was a new Kia model called Carene which was displayed in Tiendesitas by Kia Pasig. It's a 7 seater unit which can be compared with the Sportage and Tucson. The agent said that it costs around Php 900,000+. You may want to check that out too.

As for me, I am very happy with my Tucson. The CRDi is very quiet as compared to older deisel engines. And the power is much much better.

    Hope this helps.

    2007 CRV
    2.0 m/t 4x2 = Php 1,190,000.00
    2.0 a/t 4x2 = Php 1,250,000.00
    2.4 a/t 4x4 = Php 1,450,000.00

without any effort, full blast aircon and occasional downshifting to overtake cars I get 10 - 11 city driving. This was my first drive though.
