With an impressive array of equipment and competitive pricing, the Hyundai Starex is once again the Filipino’s favorite family van with a commanding 27 percent market share—making it number 1 among its competition. Since its introduction in April, it has continuously outsold its rivals including the Toyota HiAce, Nissan Urvan, and even its platform twin, the Mitsubishi Spacegear. The Starex is the only van to have positive sales figures (up 16 percent from last year) in a market that has registered a 19 percent fall from the year before.
Now, with the availability of a new engine, the Starex is headed for more sales. The robust 2.5-liter turbocharged diesel engine (100 horsepower) is joined by a 2.5-liter CRDi (Common Rail Diesel Injection) engine that’s good for a peak horsepower of 145 bhp. This new engine, which is the most powerful diesel in its class is also the quietest, and may equal European power plants in refinement. Hyundai also introduces timing chains on the CRDi, replacing the old unit’s timing belts. That way, maintenance cost will be lessened considerably.
Whereas the new engine shines brightly under the hood of the Starex, Hyundai has decided to play cool with the interior with the Starex’s light gray interior with swathes of wood grain paneling and optional leather seats for that luxurious touch. The instrumentation has been revised giving it a metallic finish for a techno feel. The Starex features a high fidelity CD sound system with an optional VCD/DVD entertainment system. A glass-mounted antenna for clearer radio reception completes the package.

Hi Martian,
We just got our Starex GRX CRDi last Wednesday. Dunno the details of the package as it was my tito who handled the transaction.
Comparing it to the first set of H-1s (2.6L NA) that arrived here in 1998, the CRDi engine is a blast to drive. It's one powerful engine, got to run it up to 170km/h on the skyway. And it's quiet too. Dunno about fuel efficiency yet tho. Ride is pretty much like the 1st ones, good and not bouncy.
Its flooring is the color silver rubberized mat type that's quite easy to clean. Added accessories from the 98 model are the shift lock on the AT version, the reverse parking sensors, the auto lock feature once you reach 50km/h, the auto headlight on/off feature, and the driver's side airbag. The radio on the GRX will just play casettes, so we replaced ours with a Pioneer HU.

For the Toyota products its likely to be the case for most of their products per the service...
