mga sir, do you think sulit ang difference of about 120K ng 4x4 CRDi from the 4x2? hindi ba mas mabigat na at would result to lower gas mileage due to the added weight and strain on the engine due to the 4x4?

are the added advantages of the 4x4 really costs the additional 120K? thanks

The bigger, long established dealers (E Rod, Alabang, etc) have sold the 4x4 CRDI since May / June. Not sure why they dont actively sell it. Probably there is this awareness that the gas 4x4 sales might be affected if they do.

4x4 CRDI is abvailable from QC Ave, Erod, C5 even now. You have options pa nga re color. Let your SA work for you by insisting on the type and color you want. They'll do anything to make the sale.

I got the 4x4 CRDI as I think its worth the 4WD traction during wet road driving conditions on mountain roads. Also if I need to go up gutters during emergencies. Never got it for offroad purposes. I plan to have road tours up North and South this Oct-Nov. I know I will drive through all kinds of roads on these trips. I know my 4x4 SF will be ready and up to it. .

As to added weight vs fc, I think its not a major issue. Im making 8Km/li city driving right now.

    Goodluck on your purchase. Cheers!

Is the SF equipped with a temporary use spare tire? This might explain why thieves don't bother to steal SF spare tires unlike the Fortuner which uses a full size spare on a matching alloy wheel.

As for the 4x4 system, there's not much penalty in fuel economy with it. The system used in the SF is a very compact system with no low range setting. What's good about it is you can use the all wheel drive mode on paved roads unlike older 4x4 systems (e.g. part time system of the Sorento). The only penalty will be in terms of initial cost.

Is it worth the cost? Probably depends on how you will use it. But being the top of the line variant (4x4 CRDi), you will enjoy a somewhat better resale value over the other SF variants.

IMO, the 120K added cost for the 4x4 CRDI vs 4x2 is great value:
    4x2 4x4
    Rav 4 1.425 1.785
    Hilux 1.082 1.405
    Fort 1.443 1.663
    Everest 1.282 1.580

Except for the RAv4, the 4x4s in the list have slightly higher engine displacements (.3 to .5) but most have similar refinements (source: C!)

    Cheers!

    Hi Yourman!

I have the 4x2 CRDi and my cousin has the 4x4 CRDi. I've driven the 4x4 and I felt no difference (maybe because it was just a short drive).

For me, if you'll use the SF 95% on-road, then get the 4x2. If you want to have more control over the 4 wheels and get off-road, get the 4x4.

Actually my cousin told me he should have just bought the 4x2, hindi daw sulit yung 100k+ difference. For me, di rin sulit yung difference. That's a lot of money and it's not worth adding for some features you won't even use most of the time.

The spare is exactly the same -- size and rims. Maybe thieves are not targeting SFs as there are not that many on the road to steal from. Still I would want to get added locks/protection just to avoid the aggravation. Any recommendations?

Thanks for the info. That's some creative packaging to stuff a full sized spare under there.

I use a thick cable with built in lock. An item I got from Blade in SM for Php88.00. I'm just not sure how it would work on an SF.

For added locks, you can use 8mm stainless steel chain and an all weather padlock with cover. I bought the chain along Alonzo st in Santa Cruz for 420 per meter. I think the name of the store is "mega pacific" or something. Anyway, thats the only store that sells it for the said price. Others cost double. Padlocks you can buy anywhere. Just make sure the keyhole has a built-in cover to protect from dirt.

ser hindi po, naka-alloy rim siya. medyo malalim at masikip din kase yung space gaya ng Fort.

    Hi Guys!

I checked the spare tire compartment of the SF, medyo masikip talaga lagyan ng chain.

If anyone of you managed to install a chain lock, please share some pics and tips!

    Thanks!
