    Hello Santa Fe owners.

I'm planning to get an SF probably this December and I'm leaning towards the Theta model, however I saw that there are 2 models available, lo and hi specs. Is the additional 100k worth the add-ons on the hi as compared to the lo spec?

    Thanks!

the difference between the low spec variant and high spec is highlighted in yellow... this was posted previously by otaner...

basically for additional 100k you're paying for leather seats, ESP, ECM+compass, auto rain sensor and conversation mirror...

still on the fence kung hi-spec variant or r-VGT ang kukunin ko...

I'm not familiar with how hyundai handles negotiations but, is it possible to forgo some of the added features from the hi spec (say the leather package) and haggle for a discount?

Sa side by side comparison of hi and lo spec, parang I'm only interested on the cool box, rain sensing wipers, and auto light control system.

Please advise naman. Mejo I need convincing on which variant to get, though december pa naman, I want to make up my mind na para I won't be cramming come december.

I've already scrapped Montero, Fortuner, and Captiva from my list. I'm leaning towards SF na, then naconfuse because of the lo and hi specs.

    Thanks, thanks!

May I ask what is the main purpose of your purchase?

Most of the upgrade specially the ABS is very useful sa long trip as part of safety feature kung pang short distance city driving lang at gagawin lang pang sundo or shuttle sa office pwede ng wala eto

Ang tanung kung worth it is depende parin sa iyo but for me its worth it kung later on ay magpapaupgrade ka rin to have those missing features.

After about two months of going "this one or that one?" - I finally settled for the Theta II hi spec variant.

With the "satisfaction guaranteed" assistance of our resident SA, EJ of Hyundai Dasma, I got my black Santa Fe last July 27. Thanks again EJ!

I haven't driven it much yet. Got it delivered with 34 kms on the odo and prior to my visit to Maspro this morning, I have only done +16 kms on it - mostly short runs within my village and to my kids' school just to get those obligatory entry stickers.

Anyway, with my BF Paranaque to Maspro and back to BF trip this morning, my odo finally breached the 100 km mark :-) I am pretty much satisfied with the ride and handling - though I have to adjust my driving style and get used to the Santa Fe's A-pillar which reduces front visibility especially on the passenger side. I just have to be conscious of it and be extra cautious on blind corners - which we are supposed to do always anyway.

I haven't gotten a measure of the engine's power though, not that I am expecting much from it nor is it a consideration to me for what would be a daily city commuter.

Just the same, I thought of pressing the pedal. The Marina to Uniwide Coastal stretch would make for a good sprint. But on my way to Banawe, there was some bike run going on. Heading home, Macapagal was clear but it was raining quite hard and with the wife as the passenger, it was manual cruise control.

Now, for the P100k question - are the extra features worth the extra pesos? (leather seats, ESP, auto-dimming + compass rear view mirror, auto light control, rain sensing front wipers, and conversation mirror - yup, they're all there as indicated in the spec sheet I posted)

I didn't bother to do the math, it's YES for me.

The ESP is a great safety feature to have. It's something that you wish not to have a use for but something you'd be thankful for when the need arises.

As a father to four daughters, with the younger ones at ages 5 and 7, I have found it easier to clean leather seats of shoe prints, drink spills, school-dirtied hand marks, etc. than fabric seats. With leather, it's basically "wipe and shine."

The conversation mirror has utility value for me, I could see what the kids are doing at the back in a snap.

The auto light and rain-sensing wipers are convenience features which I really could do without. But they're there, so I'll take them and use them.

The auto-dimming + compass rear view mirror is something I consider to be just a nifty add-on.

I do wish the hi-spec has the power-folding side mirrors just like the diesel variants. I have them as a stock feature in my Mitsu Grandis. It's really useful to have when passing through narrow two-way streets. Also, in slow-moving or heavy traffic when bikers snake their way through small gaps between cars. Aargh, I just fold them.

But ultimately, in choosing between cars/models, it's what you would need the car for. I made my choice based on needs that are peculiar to me and my family.

I could've have gotten the R-2.2L 2WD by adding just a little more to the budget. But for my needs, I opted to save that amount to fund my visit to Maspro this morning.

I "upgraded" the HU so my kids can get to watch movies than fight in the backseat. Turned out that Lady Rider upgraded hers to a Kenwood a few days back so her stock "Skypine" went to me through Mr. Benjie. The Skypine would do it for me. The stock audio system sounded like a transistor radio (OT: Was a pleasure meeting you, Jun)

Again for the kids, a Mobis stepboard.

For myself, added a reverse cam. Thanks Mr. Benjie ;-) And a Mobis rubber scuffguard at the tailgate.

Changed my low beams to GE 5100K HIDs. I found the stock lamps rather weak - owing perhaps to the frosted projectors on the Santa Fe. It could also be that my eyes just got used to nightime driving with HIDs.

So, in the end? Whatever works for you my friends.

BTW, I was told that there were only 12 hi spec units that came in.

And, depending on your negotiating skills and your SA, it may not even be a P100k question at all. But I have sworn to secrecy

I plan to use it as my everyday car, mostly city driving as I live near pasig area and my office is in makati. There will be an occasional trips to batangas in the south and pampanga in the north.

I do like to have ABS for safety features. My current car doesn't have one, but since I already have a 3 year old kid, I would like to have all the safety features I could get.

    *otaner

Gee, reading your post is like reading an expert review

You've raised a very good point there. All I wanted are the safety features which are not included in the lo spec variant and it had me thinking if the 100k is worth all the additional features. But as you clearly pointed out, it may seem worth it, considering that I would get the safety features plus the other amenities. I would love to have a good A/V system with GPS... maybe I'll just save money for those and upgrade at a later time.

So it's been decided, hi spec for me. Too bad, I have to wait till december since I have to finish paying for my current car first.

Thanks, trackers888 and otaner for your good advice!

    Hello Otaner,

Many thanks for sharing, very informative po. We are also considering the Theta variant and very much interested in getting feedback from actual owners. Thus frequently monitoring this thread.

Sana po u can also share the FC and engine power.

    Thanks in advance.

wew. sayang. talo ako sa kaso, mas gusto nila yung alterra kesa santa fe. di naman nila kinoconsider yung gusto ko.

gusto daw nila sa alterra over sta fe

fuel consumption, entertainment, mas spacious, and malaki.

    sa snta fe nmn
exterior and interior looks, responsive engine.
