Guys, I just came from a defensive driving seminar and I would like to share some of the hightlights of the session:
    • the instructor is not recommending to change brand of air filters (stay with stock)
    • air filters should be checked and change if needed at least once every 6 months
    • transmission filter (for automatic vehicles) should be replaced at least once a year
    • high tension cables should be changed every 2 years
    • turbo timers are recommended for vehicles like our santa fe
    • most important: maintain stopping distance (minimum of 3 seconds=approximately 80 meters when you are running at 100kph)
    • maintain gas tank at 1/4 level and never full tank na "sagad" just automatic
    • syempre the standards: never drink and drive; don't drive when you are sleepy or overtired;never drive when you are emotional or angry; always inspect your car before driving
You may probably know all or some the above, i just want to share to make our roads safer... for ourselves and family.

Technically, they can void the warranty (at least here in the Philippines).

Why? That is because aftermarket filters (like the ones from K&N) have bigger *holes* in them compared to an OEM paper filter. Yes - this would slightly help introduce more air into the engine BUT it can also introduce unwanted dirt into the engine. Try viewing an aftermarket filter against the sun and you'll see.

Though over time, as the filter gets dirtier its filtering capabilities would approximate an OEM paper filter (since the capture dirt which will be suspended in the oil will act as the *filter*).

Another problem is after you wash & recharge your filters (a very messy process). The excess oil from the filter can contaminate your sensors and can cause erratic idling.

    IMO...

The above mentioned cons are only worth it if you upgrade to an open-type filter (since the surface area of your filter will be bigger) and/or fix your tubing. The problem with some vehicles is that the intake tubing is too narrow or constrictive. Not much horsepower gain here... a measly few horses but the throttle response will definitely improve.

Upgrading to a drop-in filter is quite questionable for me since the surface area of the OEM & aftermarket filter is the same.

Hello there SF owners! Actually, regarding the air filters or the turbo timers or whatever upgrades you want to do with your rides are all up to you diba? You all have the "Freedom of Choice".

It just so happen that with the things that we have been doing to our SF's, we are very satisfied and very happy with the results naman... As of now! (hehehehe)

Lets just say, we, the ones who made "pakialam" and upgrades with our SF's serve as "Guinea Pigs" just for you!

At least kapag may nakita na kaming mga diperensya or problema, hindi na mauulit or mangyari sa inyo diba? We are only giving you suggestions.

Friends, this is for your own piece of mind if you want modify your SFs or not.

If you have doubts, then don't do anything that you will regret in the end diba po?

Just my two cents po lamang.

On the subject of air filters...

Drop-in air-filters don't really do all that much for power... they might make the engine feel a little more responsive, but the benefits aren't really all that great. And with today's modern, computer-controlled, sophisticated turbo-diesels, just changing any part of your intake or exhaust will not always result in added power... sometimes, quite the opposite, as the computer sees the change in the amount of air going in or out of the engine and adjusts the engine's operating parameters so that it's making exactly as much horsepower as before... or less.

The sure way to improve your Santa Fe's performance is through a performance chip like the Unichip or one of the many diesel tuning chips on the market right now. I think Kevin Limjoco writes about his experience with one in this month's (June, 2008) C! Magazine.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

May promo ang HARI sa mga PMS Jobs from May 15 ata to July 19.
Nakita ko kasi don sa CASA na may malaking banner sila.
Ang tawag pa nga sa Promo is C.L.A.S.S. Nakalimutan ko ibig sabihin ng C.L.A.S.S. he he he.

    Eto promo for PMS Jobs:
15% Discount sa Labor and 10% sa Filters (ata)
    Then may Free:
    - T-Shirt pag Regular Oil
    - Umbrella for Semi-Synthetic
    - P300 GC from National Bookstore pag Fully Synthetic.

Basta 6500 inabot lahat lahat. Nong unang computation, sabi aabot daw ng 7,100. Pero nang magbabayad na ko, 6,500 na lang.

Maganda takbo ni SF ngayon. Bilis umakyat ng RPM. kakapanibago nga eh.

Hello po! I have been reading this thread for about a week already, and finally today I have decided to get a Hyundai Sta Fe. A lot of your posts convinced me. I reserved a white one from sir Lui this morning. He is very accommodating. I hope I have made the right decision in choosing this car.
