It's a heavy vehicle ... Well, that's better than the Ford Explorer which chews on A-arm bushings ... Talked to this guy who had a 2016 Ford Explorer Sport with 40T kms ... He has replaced the A-arm twice already ... First time it costed 17T ... 2nd time it was already 20T ... Plus the steering rack has also been replaced ... 96T+ ...

Oh I replaced the arms and rack and pinion on the GS already a few years back. Forgot the mileage. But the arms couldn't have been more than 40Tkm. The rack and pinion maybe at around 60Tkm.

I consider the more frequent suspension repairs vs say a Hiace to be a fair compromise for the better ride quality but the rack and pinion is supposed to last at least 100Tkm.

Rack and pinion was around 18k+ IIRC bro. Rack ends and stab links are a lot cheaper, <2k+/pc lang. The arms I forgot na. Around 6-7k I think. Replacing the bushes on them would be cheaper but I replaced them anyway coz I didn't have much time.

It's GT maxmiller pro. Kumho portran is not available in my location which is around 250km from manila. Replaced all four already. 22k total.
Options here are ecopia and primacy, which they said is also as capable but the numbers does not say so.

Yes. GT maxmiler pro. Focused on the specs. Wala ako nakita or wala achiles sa mga napuntahan ko. Btw I'm not from Manila. That's another option para sa soon magpalit tires.

Swerte pala ako at pinalitan ko mga bushing and links when my gs was 7 years old or 85-90k kms. Never replaced rack and pinion. Running now at 106k kms.

When do we replace the timing chain again? 120k kms ba?

Replaced the rack ends & tie rod ends at 6 years old/60k+ kms. Then replaced the stab links & stabilizer bar bushings this year at 8 years old/80k kms.

So far there are no more squawking & knocking sounds while the handling feels more stable.

Rack and pinion kumokontra yung steering wheel intermittently pag nakasagad sa left or right bro. Minsan kahit di naka full lock kumokontra din pakonti konti. Rack ends pag nakataas sa lifter at may wobble yung tire/s when you try to wiggle them left to right by hand. Stab links usually makalampag and malikot yung steering ng konti on rough roads.

Might be my route din bro. GS's route was mostly C6 when it was still under cobstruction. Although compared to the body on frame vans like the Hiace mahina talaga rubber suspension bits ni Hyundai.

60Tkm lang ba yung timing chain? Ang igsi pala ng lifespan nya. Others are up for replacement at 100Tkm... Nagpalit ka din nung chain tensioner?

^ang pagkaalam ko is 80k yung timing belt, but now, like the Toyota Innova it's 120k. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Timing chain is supposed to last the lifetime of the car, but you have to have it checked once in awhile to be safe.

Di ba timing gear yung lifetime ng vehicle? Timing chain din ba? Sabi nababanat din yung chain over time kaya pinapalitan din. Not sure lang how long before palitan. Siguro pag lampas na sa tolerance yung haba.

Lahat ba ng GS na VGT timing belt or may models na timing chain? Is it the same for HARI and gray units? Ours is a 2011 Euro 4 gray market unit.

Hindi lifetime ang timing chain. Papalitan din yan. At least 100k or more. Tignan ko sa manual ko.

Been hearing a whining noise everytime i start the van in the morning. Seems to be coming from the PS pump. Fluid level is ok.
It goes away when the engine is hot.

    Anyone experienced this before?

    i don't starex.
but i believe it is coming from an ill-lubricated bearing. it is probably one of the pulley bearings or idler bearing or...
some cars have replaceable bearings, and in some cars, one has to replace the entire part.
WD40-ing it will make the noise go away, only to return after 1-2 weeks.

another possibility is the belt. sometimes, tightening it solves the problem.

Although the ps pump is always the prime suspect (low ps fluid causes this noise) any bearing outside can cause a whining sound. So anything that the serpentine belt passes like the alternator, water pump, ac compressor and serpentine belt tensioner must be checked. Try to pinpoint the source using a pvc pipe. With one end close to your ear point the pipe as close to any suspect part (pump, bearing) and if the sound is loudest then that is your prime suspect.
