if this japan sourced model is not selling well, honda may adjust the prices of its thai origin models. but i honestly thought people would still fall head over heels over this new model despite its price. it seems i was wrong.
"1-M pesos" is a psychological barrier that many people do not want to cross for compact cars.
I was at the show room of the Honda dealer here in our area and the new Civic does not look that bad in the metal. Delivery takes about a month according to the SA...still thinking if this will be a good replacement for my 5-year old FD.
Sa totoo lang, yung 2.0S lang nagustuhan ko diyan sa 9th gen Civic.
2.0S na Black, nothing else.
Di tulad sa FD, kahit 1.8V solve na. Haha.
Any review from the actual owners of this new civic? May nakabili na ba? Been considering one, if the price was worth it.
Seeing the thread, I am not so fond of competing with the bashers. But as far as I'm concerned I'm happy with my purchase , friends and family all felt it is very comfortable to drive( I let them test drove the car). Although I must admit they all thought it looks like a city. But once they drive the car all their comments are somehow turned to praises.
Nothing glaringly wrong with the new one.
It's just that there's not a lot of changes from the 2006 model; and the price hike was unjustified for the kit you get. I.E. The previous 1.8 AT had paddle shifters already.
And yes, you need to change the grille to something less City-like. (There was a picture a few pages back of the OEM manufactured front grille)

^ the 9th civic is cheaper than the 8th gen civic when it was released here in AU...
^ The highest variant of the 8th gen 1.8L was around ~850K pesos when it was originally released in the Philippines.
The 9th gen 1.8 is currently at 1.074M pesos. That's a 26% increase. If you use the 2011 price for the highest variant 1.8, the new 9th gen still carries a ~9% premium over the 8th gen.
I know that in the US, and probably in most other countries, the 9th gen and the 8th gen were sold at similar price ranges, because the 9th gen was designed to be cheaper for a recession economy.
Apparently dito hindi ganun.

the 9th gen sport(2.0) top of the line cost only $AU30k with
auto rain sensing wiper
projector type lamp
sunroof
i-mid
Rear seat centre arm rest with cup holders

So same price nga sa inyo yung 8G and 9G.
Comparing the 8th gen 1.8 "S" with the 9G "EX":
Price:
8G - 988K (2011), ~850 (est 2006)
9G 1.074M (Price increase of 26% and 9%, respectively)
8G advantages
+8G Paddle shift
9G
i-mid
60:40 split folding
VSA
EPS
Leather steering wheel
Projector headlamps
Side mirror repeaters
+2 tweeters
Econ + Cruise Control
Steering wheel
No leather seats on our EX
All in all. Nilagyan ng features pero binawi sa price. The 9G was developed to save costs. But not transferred to the consumer.
Still waiting for the Thailand 9G to bring down the price, then the Civic can really be competitive again. Talo sa design. Ibawi nalang sa features and price if willing si HCPI.
PS and pls put back the paddle shift!
^ im comparing the vti-l(1.8) 8th gen with 9th gen 2.0 sports..
8thgen= $AU30k (1.8 vtiL)
no leather,no paddle shift,no sunroof,16" rims,1.8l
9thgen = $AU30k (2.0 sports)
all leather, paddle shift, sunroof, imid, econ, projector, rear arm rest, rain sensing wiper,5star ancap, etc
btw we got paddle shift on the 9th gen both 1.8 and 2.0
makes me want to sell my fd...lol
