When it rains, do you use your lights?

Honestly speaking di ko rin alam kung bakit kailangang naka-on ang headlights kung gamit ang wipers. Bakit kaya?...info pls !! ...thanks.

CA's traffic rules are very strict and most people are disciplined drivers. Maybe the reason why they do that is to add more visibility.

+1 That's exacly the reason why it's required by law. Just because your vision allows you to see others does not mean that other people's vision allows them to see you. That's also why most cars here have their lights on by dusk, it allows better visibilty for other cars to see your vehicle. Keep in mind that headlights serve two functions, it lets you see when it's dark or low visibility and it lets others see you also.

True. It can be argued that headlights are for others to see YOU first, and for you to be able to see second.

+1. Having low beams on will be enough to make them know you're there. If you're still in a hurry, flashing your high beams would be enough to catch their attention without having to make it worse on them.

Yung hazard signals during a heavy rain is a nono. :nono:

It is still better to use your signal indicators.

Do i use them? yes. why? not just because it's mandated by the law but also for the safety of myself and other drivers as well.. Do i use hi beams? a big no no.. why? because things are just gonna get worse for you and others around you. Think of it this way if you're driving in a heavy downpour in day or night isn't it irritating to see oncoming traffic with their hi beams on and much worse if they're behind you? hi beams just reflects to the rain/water and barely helps your visibility in extreme weather conditions.

i'd say drive slow/responsibly and use a lot of common sense

but if that's wrong, then i'll stop using it during zero visibility or heavy rains.

Don't use the hazard lights kung di ka naman hazard. Magiging useless signal lights mo and people won't know where you want to go. Tendency pa naman natin overtake agad sa mga naka-hazard hehe.

Guilty ako dati sa using hazards when raining. Tsikot changed my life

Hazard signals should only be used if you are in an emergency situation, like if your car is stalled. This should inform the cars behind you to just go around you. Otherwise, your tail lights should be bright enough to warn cars behind you of your presence and their proximity to you.

sa pinas masama na gumamit ng hazard pag umulan ,
meron ibang bansa nga pag traffic pa lang(kahit di umuulan) sa main road .
naka ON na ang hazard light ng mga tsikot,
depende din sa regulasyon nila

Wait til you get blinded by somebody like you. This is even more dangerous for pedestrians, at night, in the pouring rain. Kawawa na nga sila, masisilawan mo pa, AND they will have an afterimage pag napatingin sa ilaw mo for a good few seconds. When crossing the road, this is very dangerous dahil hindi ka makakakita for a few seconds. We all know how dangerous crossing roads in Manila is.

Your reason for others not being alert is false, you just want the security of being visible. Why are you insecure with your own low beams? Fog lights should help. If not, get better lights, but aim them properly!

Back on topic: if you have European cars with the rear fog lights, it might also be good to use the rear fogs para easily visible from afar. This may be a better substitute for hazard lights, dahil ang hazard lights usually pag stalled, stopped, in an accident, etc...basically an emergency.

As an addition if you use your hazard lights then you can't use your signal lamps (when changing lanes or turning at an intersection). In the NLEX I see people (during a rain regardless of how heavy it is) use their hazard lights but continue to hog the overtaking lane or speed over 80kph.

As for the zero visibility, I can disagree with that. The worst rain that I’ve encountered caused the visibility to drop to only 5-10 meters but still I was able to see the red tail lamps of the vehicle ahead of me. The same goes for heavy fogs in Tagaytay.

To add also, many people complain about the relatively low visibility of the road ahead BUT have dark & heavy tints in their windshield and front side windows.

Though if you have really poor eyesight then I think that you should instead pull over in a shoulder / gasoline station / parking lot / etc., use your hazard lights and just wait for the heavy rain to subside.
