When it rains, do you use your lights?

I'm also gulity of using hazzard lights pero pag heavy downpour as in very low low visibility. Nasa EDSA ako nun gabi tapos biglang downpour. Lahat ng kasabay ko ganun ginawa tapos ang bagal so naghazard na din ako.

Minsan paakyat kami ng Baguio via Nagulian road one afternoon and not really fun for driving; rain, very thick fog as in visibility ay 4-6 meters lang (yung nai-ilawan lang starting from Sablan,Benguet) pero wala akong napansin na gumamit ng hazard lights. Yung hi/lo beam ko walang epekto sa kapal ng fog at kahit yung fog light medyo malabo rin kaya nag-rely mostly ako sa center line... daming sumusunod sa akin pero ayaw mag-overtake kahit takbo ko ay 15-20 kph. Balak kong i-park na lang sana pero di ako sure yung mga lugar baka bangin pala, sa awa ng Diyos nakarating naman kami ng aking pamilya d2 sa Bagiuo safely.

I turn on my park light on a moderate rain. Pag sobra na talaga I turn on the head light. Low beam lang. Dapat talaga nakaopen and head light para makita ka ng car sa harap mo. Using hazard siguro sa extreme condition lang or sa emergengy. Wala naman kasing law na nagsasabi na dapat i turn on ang head lights pag heavy rains. And also I use rain X. Siguro dapat may mga rear fog lamps din mga cars dito. Sa europe lang ata standard.

O.T. Bakit mga big Vans or trucks like expedition, suburban e nakaopen ang mga head lights nila even if walang rain during daytime? Kelangan paba iopen ang lights nila? VIP ba sila para gawin eto? Hindi naman sila escort? Marami ako nakita nito sa makati area? What are they trying to prove?

When rain is heavy, i turn my lights on, if visibility is low, i turn on my hazard signals.

If everyone will do that, it's easier to manuever in a heavy downpour.

Force of habit lang. hehehe. Yung Exped namin wala ding DRL kasi export model. Usually gray market USDM models ang may DRL.

Sa Volvo naman, you just turn a screw if you want DRL or no DRL.

DRL turns itself on when you release the parking brake. Para during starting, naka-off and headlamps.

Sa ibang markets, DRL's are required by law. Sweden and Canada are two of those markets AFAIK. However, since most Canadian cars are built in the same plants as cars for US consumption, even the US cars get the DRL.

Parklights, then low beam and foglights (front and rear) depending on the conditions. I never use the "hazard" flashers, I switch on my rear foglights so other drivers can see my vehicle's rear clearer.

Anytime I have to use my wipers, I turn on my lights. My park lights aren't white, they're another color (shhhh heheh)..so i just turn on my headlights.

On my way to the office this rainy morning, I noticed that only about 20-30% of the cars on the road use at the very least, their courtesy lights. Maybe 5% use driving lights and maybe 1% use their headlights. I understand that in Europe, the moment you use your wipers (even in light drizzles) you must turn on your courtesy lights.

In EU or atleast in Italy, majority uses their headlights even when it is not raining and in broad daylight.

Rule of thumb is, if you turn on your wipers then turn your headlights on.

Very true, we used to be stationed in Sicily..(southern italy).. we were supposed to drive with our lights on all the time night and day. Ther was this stretch of road that always had accidents. It was 2 lanes, 1 ongoing, and 1 oncoming, but, ppl drove that road with highway speeds. Syempre, if there's a slower car in front of you, u overtake, but sometimes ppl overtake on curves and many Americans who were stationed at the same base as we were died or got injured, they weren't used to the driving in italy.

Yes, that was what my German friend told me. I guess there's a compelling reason why they practice this in Europe.
