    momentum doc.

poor idiot din't think giving way with hard braking with a 20-50T (probably sliding) load at that back would end his life.

at least the brakes work... good job by his employer

According to a witness, the incident occurred when the concrete girder slid and penetrated the truckhead after the driver slammed on his brakes with full force to give way to a passing vehicle along E. Rodriguez.

I bet the trailer/dolly was unbraked and the load not properly secured.

kahit nag-brake si trailer, the momentum probably overcame it.
the girder probably overcame its attachment to the truck and moved forward to crush the cabin.

    set-ups like this...
    it's not a truck carrying a girder.
it's a girder with wheels strapped on both ends.

The video in the link shows the truck & trailer are both aligned. Brakes worked as advertised. Unfortunately even if the load was secured properly.. it will eventually slide, I think even the tires are new from china. Decent grip i guess lol.

^From the vid, the rear dolly was not aligned. If dolly was braked properly, rear weight of load plus dolly could have been decelerated also avoiding the incident. My guess is, the dolly brake pneumatics and electric controls were not connected/ not functional.

I don't think issue with braking. Fact is that giant concrete girder is only attached to the dollies carrying it on a few points, so there's not much friction to be had. Can't expect cables to fully arrest such a heavy load either.

Malas lang talaga. In hindsight he shouldn't have braked for that car, or he should have been driving even slower.
