Canada Passes New Regulations to Stop People Driving Without Headlights at Night

Bros, the dashboard light which is always turned on in modern cars, compounded by the drl, confuse the current North American drivers into not turning on the headlights during the night.

If the dashboard light was off, the driver will need to turn it on as he could not see the gauges at night. With this action, he will also (hopefully with a second click) turn on the headlights, just like in the older vehicles..

It was better a few years ago, before the current LED drl, that the headlight is turned on when you start the engine. No complications on the road...

    that's bad motoring etiquette...?

calling it "against authority" of "illegal" is probably the more accurate term.

Always on din yung dashboard lights dun sa isang post 2020 vehicle ko.

Fortunately, there's a setting where you can make the intensity of the glow automatically adjust when the lights are switched on. I also set it to the 2nd or 3rd dimmest setting from what I saw in an old WWII pilot guide in a museum. According to the guide, don't stare at the (illuminated) gauges too long or you'll lose critical outside night vision... kaya ayun, alam ko if on lights ko because the dashboard lights dim when they're on (baliktad nga eh!).

A good driver naman (generally) shouldn't be staring at the gauges, except for the occasional glance (check speed/fuel level). Pag wala problem car mo, temp and input voltage are optional (though useful), and if gamay mo powerband ng car mo on a stick shift, optional din ang tachometer. "Know" your vehicle, and you'll be able to maximize what you can push it to!

I haven't forgotten what you said once Doc:

Parang may mali ata dun sa high beam ah, for a left hand drive country.

Pag high beam on a left hand drive vehicle country where we drive on the right lane of the road going forward, ang bato dapat ng ilaw ng headlight is pa-kanan to avoid blinding the drivers of oncoming cars.

However, there are those who deliberately adjust their headlights so the high beams blind other drivers (turning their headlights into "weapons" for passive aggressive behavior [aka. labang/tirang DUWAG]... tapos if something happens, patay malisya pang "I didn't start it *kuno*"---> grow a set of yagb*lls. Please.

Made me look at US websites and it does seem like the high beams do aim slightly left.

I suppose if you have high beams on then it means you're more concerned about maximizing visibility and not too much about blinding incoming traffic.

no wonder they get into all sorts of scrapes!
    they practice tunnel vision!
    they have imaginary tapa-ojos!
they see only what they want to see and nothing more.
they expect the rest of the other motoristas to look out for them.

    as my motorsiklistang ka-officina says,
    "derechong tingin lang."

At those speeds, a small rock in front of your front tire, a pothole will be a life changer.
Even 110kph is already 30 meters per second.

I do hope they value the innocent lives of others who may just happen to be around them if something happens. Eh kung sila lang sana, I probably couldn't care less.

Akala ko nung una, it was a 2 lane, one way road. It turns out to be a 2 lane, 2 way road pala.
I agree with the colonel's (unbiased) opinion. Both parties were at fault.

Yun nga lang, nag counterflow yung motor. Pinapalusot na overtake lang daw but if you ask me, given what we see these guys do on the roads, hindi yan to overtake. Nasasanay na talaga silang bumiyahe diyan sa maling daanan. It's becoming a societal disease.

If you *knock wood* run into one of these guys driving on the wrong side of the road, and you're not doing anything wrong, (speeding, drunk, etc.) stand your ground and save your dashcam footage.

Bad motoring etiquette: What you hate the most.
