Hi guys. Ford alabang just called me today, kasama daw sa recall explorer ko. About sa power steering. Anyone experienced this? Still thinking if ibabalik ko sa kanila sa Alabang or sa Ford Manila Bay nalang kasi malapit samin.
Yung mga dates available kasi ako sa Ford Alabang, fully booked. And may nakausap ako na kakilala ko na SA dati, sabi mga bago na daw mechanic dun. Can anyone confirm this? Meron ba reviews lately sa newly located Ford Alabang?
Btw, nagcheck din ako sa website ng Ford and entered my VIN. See screenshot below
Hello everybody... A new fird explorer owner here. Just bought a 3.5 v6 from Quezon avenue. I already took this beauty on a long ride to Manaoag and it was a pleasant drive all the way. The fuel consumption on highway is kept at 10km/l at an average speed of 100-110. The explorer was hauling only three people including me and 3/4 tank of gas. I love the adaptive cruise control and the a/c for the seats. Makes my bum cooler specially on the long drive going to manaoag. Very pleased with my purchase and i hooe no glitches shows up in a month or so of using the explorer... By the way, i also noticed the bad smell with my unit.
Got the unit from Lester... Very easy to deal with and even delivered my unit all the way to Batangas.
Hey guys. First time here at the Ford Threads. I am in the market for another SUV and d the EX, SF, CX9, Pajero are some of the models I am considering. BUT the EX is on the top of my list. I love the looks, toys, size and I can live with the low FC. I've gone through the entire thread to check on the burnt smell issue and have found that a lot have experienced this.
I realize that this has been discussed thoroughly already but I hope you can still indulge me and give your feedback. Does the burnt smell happen for ALL of you EX owners on hard acceleration? Or is this issue showing up in SOME units only?
While I absolutely love the look of the EX, the burnt smell can be a deal breaker for me since I don't want the wife and kids experiencing this.
Looking forward to your inputs guys. Thanks!!!!
its there on all models i believe. i have had mine brought back twice and they cant fix it.
Mine also, but it was reduced a lot (almost none).
Btw, went to Ford Manila Bay today. They reprogrammed my power steering module as per recall. I was adviced lang by the SA, next time if may ma experience na problem sa power steering, ibalik ko nalang sa kanila but I have to put back my original factory wheels.. Problem is wala na, na trade in na since nabili. Hindi ba dapat ihonor pa din nila yung free service kasi hindi naman warranty claim ito, it is for recall
Sir Mykc thanks for the reply. So smell now during hard accelerations is almost negligible?
Please bear with my questions, really want to order the EX already but this burnt issue is making me reconsider. I can tolerate the other issues mentioned in forums about the EX, but this one is not something I can undermine since it involves possibly making my passengers uncomfortable
You can get away with it as long as you don't make sudden flooring of the gas pedal. The key is you don't go beyond 2000 rpm abruptly during acceleration. I can go 120kph without the smell as long as i keep the rpm within the 2K area. Rev it up to 3K, then your into the smell.
I believe there's a real fix on this by totally closing the 2 air vent ducts at the rear end. These air bents is there for air to escape when closing the doors. When they fix it sa casa, they just add filter in the ducts.
Got my recall letter already on the steering issue. Get to have it scheduled within the week.![]()

Thanks for all the inputs. Read through Serious Explorations Forum and found a lot of similar experiences from north american EX owners but not all. While the TSB's improved it for some, recent posts showed owners tinkering with their weatherstrip and latch with some success.
Will probably defer my purchase to January and closely monitor the threads about this issue. All in all though the EX is one handsome beast but somehow sickly at this point. Will try to ask for a test drive with Ford Alabang and would definitely do a hard acceleration at WOT and air recirc on to check what happens😁
TSB 12-12-4, when done correctly, can dramatically reduce but not eliminate smell under WOT (wide open throttle). I agree na once you floor it abruptly and hit abpve 3500 rpm you get that smell. I'm afraid the newer models won't have the fix until they have extended the exhaust tips.
Do what i did...buy the window visors para when you get the smell just prop the windows open haha! Drive like a maniac na lang without your family inside the car. Thats what I do from time to time. Sayang naman hehe!
SIr sword,
naka HID ka ba? When it rains, the HID performance is decreased talaga in my opinion.
Or kung stock pa rin, itaas mo ng konti ang low beam, that's what i did.
Thanks macsd. Try reading serious explorations to check for DIY remedies like slightly adjusting weatherstrip position and the latch, covering some of the useless holes, hopefully it further improves it.
BTW, i think the refreshed 2016 explorer will be launched in the LA motor show today Nov 19 US time. Wonder what tweaking they do to the exterior and interior, also if it'll now have the 2.3 Li ecoboost to fitted with the so called improved 2.0 ecoboost. Guess we will all see it over the next few days.
