I cannot quote you on this as we don't have the required equipment to calbrate Isuzu's 4JX1 injectors. FYI, no diesel workshop here is equipped to calibrate these as well. It is for this reason that Isuzu recommends an outright injector replacement when they go bad.
It doesn't make sense for us to invest on expensive and dedicated service equipment for low volume repairs. These HEUI injectors were released only on this particular engine. The newer engines use the Bosch VP44 or common rail system.
Although we've had some success in disassembly, cleaning, and parts replacement on this, we cannot claim that the injectors are calibrated as we cannot test them for conformance to factory specs.
Bye
Good afternoon,
I think I've posted in this thread before regarding the unusually high fuel consumption and exhaust opacity of my pickup truck after being recalibrated by another shop last year. (they claimed to have added more power, they probably just set the injectiors to deliver too much diesel)
I've changed the filter to OEM during a previous oil change, and I still get a very low (around 6-7 km/liter from the previous 9 km/liter) mileage, as well as constant streams of black smoke even after washing the tailpipe.
I guess there's no other choice but have the injectors recalibrated again.
How much, and how long would recalibration take? I'm guessing there wouldn't be any need to replace any parts since they're still only a year old.
My ride is a non-turbocharged 1999 ford ranger
I'm looking forward to a response
Good afternoon,
I think I've posted in this thread before regarding the unusually high fuel consumption and exhaust opacity of my pickup truck after being recalibrated by another shop last year. (they claimed to have added more power, they probably just set the injectiors to deliver too much diesel) Injectors cannot be adjusted to deliver more fuel as their purpose is to automize fuel for proper burning. The injection pump controls fuel delivery. If the previous workshop claims that they adjusted your system for more power, they probably set the pump to deliver more fuel than required, and this is not calibration. This is a deviation from specs.
I've changed the filter to OEM during a previous oil change, (air filter? ) and I still get a very low (around 6-7 km/liter from the previous 9 km/liter) mileage, as well as constant streams of black smoke even after washing the tailpipe. Overfuelling results in black smoke.
I guess there's no other choice but have the injectors recalibrated again. I recommend a recalibration of your injection pump, not the injectors...
How much, and how long would recalibration take? Removal / installation, calibration, and on-engine timing of your pump will take a day or two, and approximate service charges would be approx. 3k. I'm guessing there wouldn't be any need to replace any parts since they're still only a year old. You're probably right.
My ride is a non-turbocharged 1999 ford ranger.
I'm looking forward to a response. I suggest that you ask the previous diesel workshop to recalibrate your injection pump back to specs if you see that they have the equipment and test data for your particular pump. They should do this free of charge...
Nice meeting you Jason! Give us a feedback on the work done to your Ranger. If you have any problems feel free to post or just pass by the shop.
We suggest you buy a step/idle up solenoid for your aircon/compressor so the diaphram on the pump will work accordingly since it was set while in the test bench.
Thank you, and nice meeting you too sir! Pati na rin si sir Jake! Tama yung diagnosis nyo na injector pump yung culprit nung lahat ng problema
Medyo rough nga yung idling pag nag on yung aircon, I'll try to find an idle-up switch next week.
Salamat ulit. ang galing nyo.![]()
Dear Disel Dude,
I have similar problem with JCADAY and currently contemplating to have my Pajero 99 FM (4M40 engine) serviced. I was in Baguio last week and kagayang kagay ng experience nya.
Would you know what type of injection pump ang nasa 99 FM? Bosch?
Would you recommend calibration at this time? Mileage is 102K and I acquired the unit 19 months ago at 78K mileage
Actions taken:
I replaced my air filter, fuel filter and nag change oil na din ako as I read on one your posts.
Regular naman oil change ko at 5K or sometimes lower
Tried to use additives like Bio diesel - very minimal ang effect I would say
Appreciate your input
Dear Disel Dude,
I have similar problem with JCADAY and currently contemplating to have my Pajero 99 FM (4M40 engine) serviced. I was in Baguio last week and kagayang kagay ng experience nya. White smoke at cold start in Baguio only, or in Manila as well? Do you experience a hard start condition every morning?
Would you know what type of injection pump ang nasa 99 FM? Bosch? Your pump is Zexel, which is now Bosch.
Would you recommend calibration at this time? It depends. Mileage is 102K and I acquired the unit 19 months ago at 78K mileage. If you have high fuel consumption plus excessive black smoke at normal operating temperature, probably yes. I am assuming that you put in an original air filter.

Good.
Hi dieseldude,
I have a Nissan 4x4 eagle pick up w/ td27 engine & auto trans. My fuel consumption is 6 km/l at City & 8 km/l at Hi way. I already changed the fuel injector but no improvement. My engine start easily, no smoke, no vibration. I only add 1/2 liter of oil every 5k km oil changed.
Your advised is very much appreciated
Thanks
Although I'm not too familiar with the TD27's fuel consumption, it seems to be on the high side. This could be due to many external factors which are not related to the engine eg: driving habits, tire size & type, aircon setting too cold, no. of passengers and vehicle load, etc.
Engine related causes would be: idle speed too high, restricted air filter, injection pump to engine timing incorrect, faulty injection pump, etc.
By the way, audit your speedometer for accuracy. It may be indicating a figure which is less than your actual distance travelled.
Thanks for the reply Sir dieseldude.
My tire size is 9.5 x 30 R15 Bridgeton AT. Last April 27, 2008 I went to Bustos Bulacan. I am from Valenzuela, I traveled 90 kms. back to back but I consumed 12.5 liters of diesel. My hi way speed is only 80 kph, 90-100 kph on overtaking then back to 80 kph. I have only 2 passenger and about 50 kilograms load, aircon temp setting at 60%.
I regularly changed oil filter every change oil. I changed the fuel filter & the air filter w/ simota.
I feel my engine is hard to full specially on up hill at full stop. my garage 1-1/2 ft. deep from the road. When I back up to go out I felt its getting hard to get up.
Originaly my ride was Z20 petrol engine manual trans w/ 4.88 differential, tire size 215 x 70 R15.
I read in the other thread that this type of engine consumed about 10-12 km/l on Hi way and 8-9 km/l on City.
Thanks again dieseldude for your comments.

Are these good filters? Are you sure that your Simota air filter is matched to your engine, and isn't restricting air to your engine?

Thanks again dieseldude for your comments. You're welcome....
sir,
dieseldude napalitan ko ng ang engine ng rides ko from 2c to RF turbo. kaya lang di ko alam kung saan ipapa wiring yong turbo.makikisuyo sa iyo sir. baka may ma irerekomenda ka.
sir dieseldude, ask ko lng poh why i feel this lack of power s arangkada para bng hindi kapit yung clutch ko.i replaced my clutch n pressureplate pro parang ganun pdin.di ako kontento sa hatak nya.my ride is 2003 starex.sa sctex nman npapatakbo ko sya ng 160km.sa arangkada lng parang kulang kapit.sabi nman mekaniko ko ok nman dw injection ko ksi sa andar plng dwe ng makina e very smooth nman daw.what do you think poh kaya problem?tenks po in advance!it will be a lot of help kasi gusto ko tlaga lumakas arangkada ride ko.
Isa sa mga trucks na ginagawa sa shop ni Sir Jake, madalas ang Cummins but this Freightliner with a C12 CAT is seldom.
sir dieseldude, ask ko lng poh why i feel this lack of power s arangkada para bng hindi kapit yung clutch ko. i replaced my clutch n pressureplate pro parang ganun pdin.

what do you think poh kaya problem? Hindi ko pa alam. Sagutin mo kaya muna ang mga tanong ko.
