JUST IN: President Rody Duterte signs tax reform bill into law. | via Alexis Romero
with duterte's TRAIN, poor pay higher taxes so rich can take home more.
- Sonny Africa, Ibon Foundation
according to PSA, as of October 2016, the average annual family income of Filipino families was approximately Php267,000.
under the TRAIN, those earning not more than Php250,000 are exempt from income tax.
also, according to PSA, the per capita poverty threshold is peg at Php21,753.
the title of mr. africa's commentary (POOR PAY HIGHER TAXES SO RICH CAN TAKE HOME MORE) is grossly misleading.
now, mr africa, in what manner would the poor pay higher taxes?
explain it to me like i'm a four year old.
sa signed TRAIN law, ive read:
+ P2.65 per liter on gasoline
+ P2.50 per liter on diesel
10% P600K to P1M
20% P1M to P4M
50% P4M
hehe takbo na sa Toyota, at baka magkaubusan ang LC200 before Jan 14, 2018
Updated... Maka bili na rin ng Ford Ranger... heheheh

Plenty of exemptions
The bill defines a large tax exempt range – trucks, special purpose trucks [dumpers, transit mixers, etc.] jeep and Jeepneys. Trucks were defined to include all pick ups, not just single cab chassis. The latter may prove a boost to local body builders like Centro, Almazora, Del Monte, etc. as L300FB and FX substitutes will abound. We suppose this tax break is in support for the family enterprise and agricultural starter/small scale businesses.
What's the rationale explaining why luxury cars are cheaper now?
I get that the government gets more revenue by taxing common cars than luxury vehicles. But the government also gets more revenue by keeping the taxes on luxury vehicles the same instead of lowering them.
I don't get it. Why do you have to make a Land Cruiser cheaper than it already is when people who have the money for one obviously don't need the savings?
And it's not like the 500k decrease of the Land Cruiser will make it suddenly more accessible to many. Those who weren't able to afford it at 4.5M most likely still won't be able to afford it at 4M. And what's more likely is that dealers won't drop prices and would rather keep the margins for themselves, knowing full well that their market has the capacity and willingness to pay the original higher price.
It sends a very strong message to the proletariat that the ruling classes can always craft laws for their benefit and there's nothing that ordinary people can do about it.

Rough translation to SRP:
Not exact but you get the picture. As expected, cheap cars get a slight increase, PPVs/CUVs get the biggest percentage increase. But again, what's the logic behind cheaper Land Cruisers and Euro luxury cars?????? [emoji35]

Nice calculator to check how much your take-home pay changes with the tax reform:

coz the buyers of the luxury cars are the movers and shakers in this country, they create jobs for the masses and middle class. and their personal income tax will be heavily taxed; so para naman mag-continue sila sa sacrifice of building this country while others are in social media always bickering, complaining, observing, let them enjoy collecting luxury cars. nakaawa na sila kasi they accepted God's challenge to them to do greater things, tapos ang masses ang gusto lang mag-enjoy ng mediocre life
So, kelan nila iadjust ang prices ng LC?
Damn, 2 of my friends bought Macans recently. Sayang at nakasave sana sila ng 500k [emoji23]
