Tradeoff is just the higher fuel consumption and the added noise due to the bigger displacement. Im sure it goes the same way with the ranger.

Now if you're still comparing the 2.5 and 2.2 models of the two, it's safer to choose the one with the bigger displacement. I still dont trust the notion that more turbo is better than more displacement especially if we're talking about hauling.
