(off-topic) Friend from another site just did an article for yahoo autos. Did you know that car loan terms are at ten years, now? With interest rates below inflation. Because there are so many new retirees that banks feel more confident giving long-term low-yield loans, since pension funds are immutable.
But that seems like another huge subprime bubble waiting to pop.
The Mirage in regular city driving gets around 12 km/l. But traffic sucks big time now. If you're crawling along, it's possible to get 7.5 - 8 km/l. Then again, it's also possible to get 6 km/l out of the Vios (or less). Very hard to make comparisons with the chaotic nature of traffic nowadays... that's why it's best to drive out on weekends to test fuel economy.
The STI is more fun than a barrel of monkeys. Incredible grip, brakes and cornering speeds. And beyond that, it's something of a hooligan. Kick the clutch in, drop the hammer then drop the clutch and it'll be slithering sideways in an instant. If you're willing to shred the clutch (and perhaps a drive-axle or two...) with a catastrophic high-rpm launch, it'll have you laughing like a madman at the dragstrip. (Yeah, there are cars that accelerate faster, but that AWD launch is brutal)
But the steering isn't anywhere near as tactile as the MX5 or 86, and the turbocharged engine doesn't quite have the direct throttle response of the naturally aspirated motors (though to be fair, most of these electric throttle cars feel slightly artificial compared to the old cable-throttle cars). An STI, it's like a sledgehammer, you swing it around a corner, you know you're going to hit your target. Every single time. The BRZ/86 is more like a sword. Takes more finesse and balance to do it.
Different strokes for different folks. Adrenaline junkies will get more of a kick out of the STI, but the "purists" who wear gloves and thin-soled driving shoes will definitely prefer the 86/BRZ.
Me? Give me a MINI and I'm happy.Hell... give me a Mazda2 and I'm happy. I'm not that picky.

Vios - yes maganda eto pero grabe maka overrate ibang owners nito akala mo lilipad na daw sa bilis
Tucson
Monetero Sport - isa din to pogi ka daw pag eto ride mo
Mirage
Crosswind - di bale mausok, matibay naman
Mitsubishi L300 - matibay daw the best in its class

i agree with everything, the 86/brz is one of the few cars that makes you feel one with the car. and yes it's both under and over rated for the reasons you stated.
the mx-5 is very under-rated, it's a great auto-x/slalom car but in the track i'd still choose a brz/86 over it. the problem with the mx-5 is it's looks, it's branded as a girls car plus the interior is very cramped that you can barely put anything inside. atleast the brz/86 you can use the back seats as extra luggage space. the biggest problem is it's priced at a whooping 2.217M which puts it at STi price range and the aftermarket parts isn't widely available in the philippines.
this is so true couldn't describe it any better. the brz/86 although you can pull drifts so easily the problem is because it is so well balanced you know that you won't lose control unlike on the STi the handling is so wild that you know you could lose control anytime which makes it more exciting. i guess for me since i've been past a couple of really powerful cars (STi, c63, X5M) and driven a lot of other powerful cars i wanted something different naman and easy to drive. that's what made me choose the BRZ instead of buying another STi. anyway the 86/brz is said to be the younger version of the carrera S.![]()
Subprime Auto Loans Get Larger as Competition Grows, S&P Says - Bloomberg
http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/...9820KB20130903Subprime auto lenders are enabling buyers to borrow more relative to the cost of a car in a sign that underwriting standards are deteriorating amid increased competition, according to Standard & Poor’s.
The average loan-to-value ratio, or LTV, on vehicle sales to consumers with spotty credit has risen to 114.5 percent this year from about 112 percent in 2010, S&P said in a report yesterday. That compares with a peak of 121 percent in 2008, according to the New York-based rating company.
U.S. banks made 36 percent of their car loans to subprime borrowers in the second quarter, up from 34 percent a year earlier, according to data from Experian Plc, which tracks credit information as well as data on nearly 700 million vehicles in North America.A record 84.5 percent of people acquiring cars in the second quarter financed the deals with loans or leases, Experian said on Tuesday. That is up from 79.7 percent in 2008.

Wish there was a Thai-made variant... If they had the non-hardtop 2.0 with the five-speed (don't know if you can get that with the LSD, though) built in ASEAN, the price might be more competitive.
Always wondered about the X5M. I've driven the regular X5 (gas and the diesel) and the X6... the new X-Drive system is fantastic on the racetrack... you can feel the torque shuffling around in corners (like a gigantic Evo)... but they're undeniably heavy... heard the M is even heavier than that... though I don't doubt the locomotive grunt would more than make up for the extra weight.
About the only thing I'd do to the BRZ is stick an LSD on and perhaps lighten it a bit for track work. Is there one available? And how much?
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
honestly you can't really compare the regular x5/6's to the M version of it, the M versions are a totally different monsters compared to the regular x5's and 6's. that would be like comparing the STi to regular impreza's or the evo to regular lancers.
about the LSD not sure if it's available since i haven't seen one for sale locally but i think in the states it is. and the only thing i plan to do with my BRZ is make everything lightweight except for the exhaust since i want to hear the boxer rumble. next in line for me is the rim and tire combo, lightest wheels i could find for the brz is the tws t66-f but the price is ridiculous and for tires advan ad08r is the lightest with the most grip. after that stainless steel brake lines and better brake pads along with replacing brake fluid, tranny fluid and differential fluid which i heard makes a huge difference for the BRZ/86. after that everything else i plan to keep it stock and make it as light as possible, don't even plan to get a tune since i'm pretty happy with the power already.
That's so cute... Having an ignore list. I wonder if the Niky's monkeys in a barrel are on the ignore list too![]()
Ten year car loans??? Whoa. To think locally the BSP wants to revisit and tighten up the terms given to real estate loans. I guess the US really wants to get car manufacturing moving even more.
How about the Hummer?
