Bakit pag manual trans simula nung 80s 90s ilan klase kotse na dumaan eh hindi pinapalitan gear oil.... No problem....
Meron time pala na nagpalit nung nagkaleak lang. Bumili lang ako gasket/oring eh ayos na ulit..
Pero ngayon mga current user manual iniidicate na palitan mt fluid?????? May pinagbago ba components mt or kailangan lang quomota ang casa?
Kaya natutuwa ako sa mt eh good for the environment..... You dont throw oil.....pang lifetime na gamit..

Who's to say that the transmission is still tip-top if you don't change MTF? It may feel that it's working just fine but in fact, the gears may already be swimming in its own filth (floating metal particles and shavings) as a result of wear and tear.
Granted that M/Ts are a bit more forgiving than A/Ts, you still need to change the MTF as required in your manual and/or fix problems when symptoms arise.

May 3rd, 2017 09:00 AM #1203MTs are built to larger tolerances, compared to ATs. someone once said, "ATs are built to swiss-watch-like tolerances". overkill description, maybe, but google some pictures, po, and you will get the general idea.
as such, ATs are more sensitive to lubrication issues.
some of today's casas do have this reminder to "change this... change that..." as part of their customer service. they even call or text me, as reminder! it's easier now for them to keep track, because of computers. there are many car owners, kasi, whose idea of car maintenance, is to replace the pine-tree car freshener hanging under the rear view mirror. heh heh.
yung ibang kotse naman, ay naka-program na sa car's computer, to remind owners that it is time to change this or change that. hindi ito casa-level decision. manufacturer's decision level ito. casas are simply "benefiting from the situation", if one would like to put it that way.
the only time i replaced my MT's gear oil, was after ondoy. i had it checked, and it looked like coffee latte. definitely water-contaminated!
and yes, oil does not die. but it does get contaminated. and its additives that make it a better oil, do deteriorate.

One obvious reason why A/Ts require relatively more attention than M/Ts is because of the built-in clutches. These clutch bands don't respond well to metal shavings coming into contact with friction surfaces. If this goes unchecked for a significant amount of time, catastrophic failures becomes inevitable.
Another reason is due to the complexities of the oil passageways, solenoids, valves, fluid pump and whatnots, that can get clogged up or damaged.
All these in the name of driving convenience. But for as long as you take care of an A/T, it should provide you trouble-free operation for the life of the vehicle.

Our family recently acquired an A/T vehicle kasi. Although, I know some basic stuff about automatic transmission vehicles like nakapag drive na ako before (via test drives sa mga auto show/events). I'm used in driving a M/T transmission na vehicle and yes, medyo naninibago ako with the A/T one. Anyways, na drive ko naman yung car from the casa to our house safely. I know lang naman na you just put it in "D" then magdrive ka na. But let's say if i'm going to climb hills or something steep, sapat na ba na nasa "D" lang? or let's say susulong ako sa baha, "D" lang din ba dapat? There's an "S" option and it's for me to control the gear changes pero I'm quite afraid to use it haha. Nasanay lang kasi ako M/T na I have control over the gears and I really don't think I have to go to driving school again (I learned kasi how to drive using a M/T transmission).
And last thing, may alam ba kayo na magandang article about this? haha I'm really sorry if parang ang basic or parang "huh??" ng question ko

May 4th, 2017 05:27 AM #1206Ganyan din naisip ko noon when I got my first AT car. Nasanay din ako at naghahanap ng clutch ang kaliwang paa at weird na walanb ginagawa ang kanang kamay. Don't worry, kapag inclined paakyat hindi yan aatras gaya ng MT. Kung feeling mo bitin or hirap siya umakyat, put it on S or manual mode and shift to a low gear. But normally if you have a strong enough engine, leaving in in D is fine. Same sa baha. After a week masasanay ka rin.

On about 99% of your driving, just leave it in D. On situations when you need extra torque like when driving up inclines or hills, just press on the gas pedal and the ECU will tell the A/T if it needs to downshift automatically or not. No need to shift to S or manual mode in most cases.
The Sports/Manual mode is marketed as a way to allow the driver to choose his own shift points, typically to achieve faster acceleration. However, it may not always be the most fuel efficient method.
If you're a new A/T driver, be wary of what's known as A/T creep whenever you are in any of the forward or reverse gears. This is a normal behavior on A/Ts but can catch longtime M/T drivers by surprise if they're not used to it.

May 4th, 2017 08:59 AM #1209put it in D and drive it like a bumpcar. without the bumping, of course. put it in N when idling in traffic. i turn off the engine if the traffic is bad or the traffic signal is slow in turning.
i have been driving AT for over 5 years now, and i haven't yet been stumped by it.
