Considering the Tribute's weight penalty and slightly larger engine displacement, I suppose the FC is just about right. I shudder to think how much more the V6 variant consumes... It is usually driven for short distances only (3-6kms one way). I wonder how it would do in the highway. I've never tried it before. The diesels always get to run the long distance trips.

the AT is programmed to set in at pre-programmed positions along the spindle, po. just to give the consumer a semblance of "speed".
but you are correct. CVT is a practically stepless transmission.

^^^ We have traditional ATs, dual-clutch (DCT), and CVT cars at home. Wala naman ako problem sa overtaking. Yung Jazz 1.3L 5AT nga lang makupad so medyo kelangan timplado sa overtaking.

What I noticed on CVT is that there is no sensation of gears shifting up and down. With my Forester, when I put the pedal down, the CUV shoots above triple digits and I notice that the dashboard displays that I am in 7th or 8th gear already (with no paddle shifting).

Unlike with DCT, I can feel the gears shifting up from the low gears to the high gears. The 1st to 3rd is quite noticeable but the 4th to 6th gears is smooth and very quick.

Since marunong ka magdrive ng manual, mas madali lalo ang automatic. Wala pa ko nadinig na nahirapan sa automatic na galing sa manual.

learning to drive MT is like learning to ride a bicycle. you won't forget it, ever. but it may take a few practice laps to remove rust.
at lahat nang kilala kong nag-umpisa sa automatic, ay hindi matuto-tuto sa manual pagkatapos.

No problem at all switching to automatic. Same case tayo.

For me it's manual. I've driven a range of M/T and A/T and it's true that you save more fuel using manual transmission. I've experimented on both transmission(Even the latest A/T models) and still M/T is still the winner in terms of fuel consumption(less consumed fuel). But with today's technology I think A/T is not far in gaining the advantage against the M/T. In terms of speed control, no doubt the M/T. That's just my 2 cents on this matter.

I'd like the thought of getting a weekend or project car with an MT tranny. Maybe a WRX STi "Bugeye" or an Evo VIII/IX or E46 M3.

I test-drove a friend's 2013 Accord Coupe V6 with a 6-speed MT last month. We drove at the twisties of the foothills. I didn't grind the gears or stall the clutch like when I was a beginner.

I wasn't rusty at all. Before that, the last time I drove a MT car was an acquaintance's WRX back in 2007.

The only strange thing I encountered was having six gears instead of five. That felt weird.

Since CVTs are basically friction driven, I'm concerned about its longevity. If only someone could invent a CVT with gear teeth.
