I'm pretty skeptic about the sub-10s YouTube videos because I've driven the Altis and it doesn't feel like it can do it under 10 sec. Maybe 10-11 sec on a good launch.

I also doubt that the CVT is faster than the MT, because you can launch the MT at 4,000 rpm for maximum torque (and lots of tire screech), while you're limited to what the computer will let you have on the CVT.

    Videos don't prove nothing.

Those are hand-filmed videos translated to Youtube. There's no guarantee the video speed is the same, especially given that Youtube applies its own compression and correction factors.

That's not to mention the fact that speedometers almost always lie. Stock speedometers are anything from 5-10 km/h off... sometimes even higher. And they're always slower than the actual road speed. They're designed that way.

    -

I've tested the 1.6 CVT via a GPS-based RaceLogic V-Box with 10Hz accuracy (down to the nearest 1/10th second), and there's no way that's getting anywhere close to 9 seconds.

    -

The 2.0 CVT can do it in about 9 seconds flat. With a lovely tire-screeching take-off.

Unless the 1.6V can lay down ten-foot rubber stripes off the line... nope. Not going to happen. Good luck finding any video showing 1.6 CVTs doing burnouts on dry tarmac.

Finally drove the 1.6 AT 301. Yeah... more toys than the diesel. Nicer inside. Very quiet. Very smooth.

Still not sure I'd pay over a million for it, but the Peugeot guys say they actually sold out their first allotment... that's both diesel and gasoline.

Personally, I'd still go for the diesel, but I can see why some people would consider buying the gasoline version.

No noticeable hit in ride comfort, but with more predictable handling in corners. FC seems to have suffered (7.0 and 6.5 km/L respectively in my 2 fillups for city driving). Could be break-in period though.

That would improve pa. My officemate now gets 9 - 10 km/li after 3 months.

More of driving technique. Most enthusiasts with new cars love to test and feel the engine. Im guessing jut is enjoying the 3rd and 4th gear *2500-4000rpm on occasion. 5th and 6th for cruisin.

I drive the Altis the same way I drive any other car, especially in the city. Not much hataw and I shift up at around 2000-2500 rpm. I still get dismal city FC.

Yesterday though, brought it to Tagaytay and Nuvali, got a mixed FC of 11.5 km/L despite the awful traffic in Tagaytay and passing an unknown road going back (Casile Road). It's not so bad on the highway but city FC is so-so.

Might be weight of the rims. Just wait for the break-in period to finish. If you can't, then a little "birit" every now and then helps the process along.

    -

Friend got similar rims on his Altis... surprised me that the ride was still pretty good, despite the rim size. The shocks on the new Altis seem properly valved for bigger wheels... put wheels that big on an old Corolla and the soft ride went to heck.

I think the car's getting more birit than a sub-1000 km car should get hehe. [emoji13] But I'm being nice to it, no flat out runs until after the first PMS. Hopefully by then the FC improves as well.

The wheels feel just as heavy as the OEM rims which seem denser, although of course the wider tires also have greater rolling resistance.
