2006 Ford Focus or 2006 Civic

Honestly, this is a question that is becoming more and more difficult to answer with the passing of each day. Passing glances and first impressions of the Focus failed to evoke any emotion within me. Yes, to me, its that bland appearance-wise. I rather get the Mazda 3 2.0l. Same platform and maybe even better innards!

On other hand, the Civic, is turning into a bigger and bigger disaster as each spy photo begins to make its rounds on the net. What a pity! This is the very model that Honda claimed it is pinning its every hope of attaining business growth from, in the coming years.

With such hideous recent designs from Honda, I'm beginning to think that Chris Bangle has been moonlighting there during his coffee/lunch breaks, summer/winter vacations, etc. !

test drove a focus this afternoon...

ford has raised the bar. the focus is a mazda 3 in more formal clothing, which is to say, it is an excellent car

Now that you have driven both, which car do you like the best? Mazda3 2.0L or Ford Focus? Overall, which car would you get, budget not-withstanding? If you could also include a brief pro and cons of both cars, would be very useful. Thanks!

until you all have seen the final product, new civic that is, there is really no point in comparing the two., for one you all have only seen what the ford focus is, its stong points and weak points, with regards to the civic all you have are rumors and half truths. so if you want to have the best bang for the buck, I suggest you wait then compare.

mazda 3 2.0 pa rin ako hehe, but it's not that simple.

    mazda 3 R:
    + always feels sporty
    + dynamite styling
    + stock tires are excellent
+ great handling and steering feel
    + telescoping steering wheel!
    - trunk space is narrower compared to some competitors
    - rear seat headroom may be lacking for tall folks
    - rear seat is shaped for max comfort for two
    -------------
= this sporty car is practically a four-door sports coupe; it's appropriate for younger males looking for personal transportation

    Ford Focus 1.8
+ classy styling, less sporty than Mazda 3 but more elegant
+ excellent rear seat space, roomier than altis and best in class
+ fun to drive, similar in feel to the Mazda 3 except for the lower-grip stock tires
    + telescoping steering wheel!
    - some interior details may not be to everyone's taste (like the heavily-grained dashboard top)
    - front seat space is tighter than most because of the wide center console
    - the headrests are canted forward and may be uncomfortable to some
    --------------------
= this is probably the best car in the compact sedan class for families and those looking for a more 'mature'-feeling car

bottom line though, is that the focus and mazda 3 are the same car just dressed up differently

i agree on the impression. though haven't seen the focus in the metal, i guess i've seen enough media materials (magazine pictures) to convince that though focus and 3 were siblings in some sense, the focus targets those who are in the market for an 'compact executive class' car, just as the civic recently done with current model. though honda's move to introduce a 'sport' model, which caused some dismay (including me), because all the while it was thought to replace the SiR, and to directly compete with the Lynx RS. 2.0i is a move to raise the bar from its image as a 'compact pocket rocket'.

we'll expect to see FOCUS on the roads soon. the question is how soon will Honda respond?

According to the C! magazine give-away from Ford Focus test drive, "The head restraints are designed to "force" you to use them properly." Its at page 11 in one of the captions of the picture showing the interior.
