hein, you obviously haven't done your homework. And just for that, you don't get any pictures here. Read through the threads. Learn how to use tsikot's email forum links (you could be just 2-3 clicks away) and most of all, how to conduct yourself properly in a design e-forum community.
:nono: And don't get any ideas of submitting Chok to your bigboy bosses. Chok is MY son, hopefully the first of many sons and daughters (yup, cars have gender, too). Chok is not for sale or ransom to foreign automakers. Conceived in 2003, designed, and assembled in the Philippines by Filipinos, for Filipinos, the way Filipinos do (:cheers2, given Filipino circumstances. Fully patented and trademark registered.

DISCLAIMER: Though I have introduced Chok to Tsikot, I haven't bandied him in the threads, in observance of the no advertising rule, and also to avoid pre-empting whatever other style concepts may emerge from the other design enthusiasts. Chok is NOT the MVPMAP PhUV, nor is he the Tsikot PhUV, as he was conceived and born three years ahead.

The MVPMAP thread started by jamesvhong 13 Dec 2006 (Pinoy Utility Vehicle Bibili ba kau? - http://tsikot.yehey.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33667) eventually evolved into the Tsikot PhUV thread 06 Mar 2007 (Tsikot.ph PHUV Prototype - http://tsikot.yehey.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35915) when a group of tsikoteers decided to design their own PhUV.

So far, tahimik pa rin MVPMAP. I posted my own analysis last April, about MVPMAP's failure to launch (in response to hein's reklamo about "filipino time" - http://tsikot.yehey.com/forums/showp...&postcount=296), but sariling opinion ko lang naman yon.

    On vehicle interior design ...

Market demand is driving the increased focus on vehicle interiors because consumers are demanding more for their money, says Ruediger Folten of Volkswagen Design in Wolfsburg, Germany.

"The interior has always been important to customers, but today they are more aware in the way they are perceived," Folten says. "Alongside the formal statement of the design, the feel of quality plays a major role. This poses the most important challenge for interior designers."

Rus Shafer concurs. He is director of industrial design for Magna International Inc.'s Intier Automotive interiors unit, which worked on the much-loved Mini Cooper passenger compartment.

That world has turned 180 degrees. In fact we're having vehicles now that are being built around an interior concept."

Adriana Monk of Ford's Ingeni design studio in London, who worked on the most recent Lincoln Continental concept says her employer, Ford - which recently announced it is tripling its investment in interior design - always has placed as much emphasis on interior as exterior.

In no way do I mean to lessen the importance of exterior styling. Just that the interior fit and finish impresses the consumer more and clinches the deal.

    hi Oyil

Please do correct me if I happen to be wrong: the last stamping plant in the country I heard of was of Ford, and it was phased out or sold out to China. In the ASEAN region, we specialize in supplying the car manufacturing world with good transmissions systems. You'd have to be a resourceful & determined car enthusiast/businessman to put up a stamping facility here. Well, that's how I understand it to be. Please bear with me & my little knowledge of car manufacturing. I'm also currently doing my own research.

Perhaps the local Wrangler(?) jeep facility (wherever that is) can help members of this forum. I think the local assembler was able to stamp some panels, while using some fiberglass for their other parts.

I'll ask around for more info.

    Regards to all

    hi to all

I'd like to contribute some ideas and pics for the interior. My own little research has shown me that the concept of car interiors is indeed evolving around the consumer's lifestyle. For example, in the following pics, the lounge or "communication" style of seating is adapted. Please feel free to comment on the concept. Our jeepney style passenger-seating may lend itself to a fresh update if such is adapted to our Filipino vehicle concept. As we are obviously family and barkada-oriented, the local consumer may find this interior concept very akin to the culture and lifestyle.

    ...and some more designs

i'm tending towards the mini-MPV category right now as it appears to be a more practicable design concept given the circumstances and constraints. as previously suggested, i recommend some tweaking in the interior design of the proposed vehicle to make it somewhat akin to our culture. Or at least, make the interior fit & finish up to par without aping all foreign designs.

    Hi varga.
The stamping plant in Bataan was bought from Ford by C. Reyes, a Filipino entrepreneur who was double-crossed, because although the buildings were there, the stamping equipment had been sold and shipped to mainland China. He sued and won the case in the Supreme Court recently. That's the last I heard.
Your knowledge of the industry is notably above average. Are you writing a thesis or term paper? Along the lines of industrial or interior design? Your contributions are also very much appreciated. Keep on posting, and if you can sketch, all the better.

    Thanks Dprox

I appreciate your candor in adding much needed info. It just happens that I have no background in industrial or interior design. I'm in an altogether different field of endeavor (but it does involve some aspects of design). No thesis or doctoral paper here either, but one might say I'm heavily involved in research. Anyway, I've been very particular about design (from product, information, fashion, etc.) ever since I was a tot.

Now that I get driven around Metro Manila (believe it isn't as enjoyable as one might think), I started wondering whatever happened to that comprehensive car manufacturing program way back in the 80s. All sorts of foreign vehicles plod along our busy streets and highways. Once I was fetched by a friend's Innova, and was impressed with the neat interiors and the smooth ride. I thought, "why hasn't the pace picked up since then", or "who dropped the ball", or something. Why are India, China, Malaysia, Korea outpacing us in car development? Of course, the easy way out is to go the cultural copout route. So i started doing some of my own research and it led me to this forum.

As to 'sketching', I'll try. I'm only familiar (dabbling, really) with Corel Draw.

    regards to all

Hmmm. Hein had a last post here last night which was un-complimentary to certain people but which, in my opinion, raised a valid point about the commercial viability of certain designs.

The fact that such post is no longer present speaks volumes about the tolerance of the moderators for dissenting opinions. If there is no room for such opinions in this thread, in this board, I have a feeling the value of this forum has just been greatly reduced.

There should be room for both boosters and detractors. Shutting out the people who disagree is like Hitler holed up in the Fuhrerbunker refusing to listen to opinions which contradicted his delusions.

To be more specific: this thread is turning into a mutual-admiration society. And Hein, spoilsport and wet blanket that s/he was, provided a for me much-needed dose of reality. Never mind if that reality has a tendency to dampen the enthusiasm of everyone. If you're strong enough to go forward with this project, you can do it in spite of Hein's naysaying.

But deleting his/her posts because they don't suit you does not serve anything.

I think that post wasnt about the viability of the Tsikot PhUV design that we are building up here. It was OT. No useful information there.

Be that as it may, it was still tangentially relevant.

Besides who decides what is on-topic and what isn't? one person? I personally thought that while the comment wasn't about the PhUV, it wasn't so far out as to be off-topic.

By that measure, DPROX's nationalistic spiels about not giving his designs to large car companies would be off-topic too. To be honest, I did find his ideas that large car companies would be interested in the CHOK somewhat.. laughable. So, is that gonna get this post deleted? Or is there a double standard regarding what's on-topic and what isn't?

It's very disappointing when people don't like to hear their detractors and just decide to shut out these people.

p.s. I did think the information was relevant. It is relevant when someone asks why you are unable to productize a design you've had lying around for three years. What will make "this" PhUV (the one discussed in this thread) any different?

Mutual admiration societies won't get you anywhere. You NEED to hear the bad news. Everyone self-congratulating each other is not the way to approach a problem.

the comment is relevant only to THAT design.

There are lots of differences which will require a different marketing strategy.

And the group dont have problems knowing the bad news about the current ideas for the NEW design.

    Hi to all

Perhaps it will be good at this point to sum up the forum's progress and development. This might get us back on track, and hopefully provide a clear direction to achieving this forum's objective.

If the forum's objective is merely to discuss or brainstorm, then it should remain open to all forms of opinion. Extreme opinions have a way of falling by the wayside, so editing them (and it remains the moderator's prerog) may or may not contribute to the forum's perceived fairness. The best move forward is to discuss & contribute toward the objective.

There's always a better way of doing things. Let's build on our strengths.

    Regards to all
