Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque recieved the full VIP treatment for his MRT experience... Skipped the line, and had the whole train to himself with guards to shoo other commuters away (same sh*t Jun Emilio Abaya got}... And he commented the trip was fast and pleasant. So what's the big deal about MRT problems?

Some would want us to believe that the problematic MRT-3 can be saved simply by replacing BURI with the original maintenance provider, Sumitomo. It is as if Sumitomo is simply standing by waiting to renew its affair with the MRT-3.

I have it on good source that Sumitomo is reluctant to return.

First, they were really treated badly by the Mar Roxas-Jun Abaya gang. Their engagement was terminated on indecently short notice.

Second, they cannot possibly accept an engagement limited to maintenance. That is like buying aspirin to deal with cancer. In order to do maintenance properly, they will have to rebuild the system.

Third, Sumitomo is wary about dealing with bureaucrats again and working with the arcane bidding and procurement rules that make it impossible to have a clear timeline of work. They would prefer to work with the private owners, MRTC. This will enable them to be assured of funding without having to deal with the arcane rules of public procurement.

For as long as management of the MRT-3 is controlled by the DOTr, the process of bringing in professional help will require, before anything else a budget allocation determined by congressmen, not engineers. Then they will have to go through some form of competitive bidding where losing bidders normally go to court to stop an award.

We do not know how long it will take for the DOTr to replace BURI with a new service contractor like Sumitomo. There is nothing in next year’s budget to fund the billions needed to “rehabilitate” the MRT-3.

Sumitomo estimates they will need to bring in as many as a hundred engineers to do the “rehabilitation.” Even then, and with full funding, they will need 26 months at the very least to make the MRT-3 reliably functional.

Based from ex-USec Chavez's statement, it looks like the DOTr is amenable to the LRMC offer.

Bringing in a new concessionare in the mrt3 fiasco will make matter worse financially for the govt bcoz sobrepenas group is an existing concessionare until 2025

Sobrepenas fare was undercut by glory admin to deodorize their corrupt reputation then to the voting mrt commuters. With the fare so cheap the glory admin bit the bullet to subsidize the sobrepena group

With the introduction of a new concessionare who will get the subsidy from the govt? With the fare continually cheap and considering the original contract its the sobrepena who have the right to claim the subsidy. Introducing a new concessionare will complicate how to split the subsidy the govt provides with the very cheap mrt3 fare

Yes, mrt3 is being milked by sobrepena group to the hilt, until 2025

Thats what the quagmire is all about, mrt3 is an old system that requires total rehabilitation. Its fare is cheap which is highly subsidized by the govt for mrt3 commuters who have to power to vote and bring people to power. The original concessionares contract will expire in 2025. The train coaches are old, tired and dwindling and requires immediate relief. The rails are in bad condition and requires immefiate replacement to smoothen the ride and reduce the strain on the old coaches.

So how do we solve this complicated problem? Wait until 2025 and boot the sobrepenas before bringing in a new concessionare

With a strict govt procurement program and a government put to power because of its political will the mrt3 commuters are waiting for a solution. Matters will get worse with mrt3 until its technical issues are resolved

Mrt3 doesnt need a new concessionare now, it needs technical minds and private financier to resolve mrt3s technical woes

Hence, mrt3 is in dire need for a philantropist, technical minds, govt with honest to goodness political will and most important of all an understanding mrt3 commuters

Heard from the news that BURI stripped/cannibalized some of the coaches bare for parts because there are no sources to buy from.

Thats why the number of coaches will cotinue to dwindle bcoz the original mrt3 coaches were manufactured in europe and the original manufacturer doesnt build that design anymore, even the spare parts

Ano ang hinahanap ko sa kasalukuyan..POLITICAL WILL to resolve the technical issues

Wala akong masyadong alam sa field na to pero di ba't mas okay kung irenovate nalang yung railroad. Time will come na wala nang tren na compatible dyan. Puro luma nalang. Unless tayo magpproduce mismo ng trenin which i really doubt na mangyayare.

Mrt 3 talga, is the worst! nagmahal at mas mahal pa sa bus. Nung 2014 kasi 14php lang from first to last station tapos 34php ata kung i-ddaan mo sa bus.

Lrt 1 ibang tren okay yung iba...
Lrt 2 lang nakikita kong maganda.

Total rehabilitation of rails will require a shutdown of mrt3 operation to give way for the workers to do their thing and that requires POLITICAL WILL

Do it before 2019 election and it could result in the defeat of this administrations candidates..do it after 2019, that means mrt3 commuters will have to endure the WORST

Shutdown is OK kung may alternative. If they solely control yung bus lanes it might be possible. Yung tipong MRT buses ang nandun at maluwag.

Long time rider din ako ng MRT during early 2000's High School And College days, lalo kung papuntang north side, then pauwi sa south side.. hanggang 2010..

Dati, hindi ganoon kasikip ang MRT, from guadalupe to central/ortigas station, less than 10 mins..

Those were the days. Pwede mo ilagay ito sa Titos and Titas of Manila [emoji2]

Nag open yan mrt3 after the rizal day bombing. Yan ang alternative namin sa lrt kasi sarado sya from carriedo to monumento (ata, I'm getting old). Pero open ang baclaraan hanggang central. Anluwag pa nun at ang lamig.
