That's a tricky one. Better talk to your insurance agent if changing out all the locks, keys, including any associated reprogramming, can be covered. Include police report, inventory of stolen items (including the car keys) and other relevant docs.

If it has an immobilizer chip, have a competent mechanic delete all stored keys and just add the one you have now. This is the bare minimum you can do to prevent the stolen key from starting the car.

May scanner na po na pwd mag reprogram ng new keys at delete the old keys.
Kaya ata ni Jeep Doctor to pero diko pa siya nakikitang nag reprogram for Innova.
Nakita ko ginawa nya to sa Xpander.

Bili ka lang ng Keys for your Innova, swerte if meron sa online.
Then using Scanner, i reprogram niya by deleting your old keys, then register your newly bought keys online.

Mahal if sa CASA nyo gagawin, Aabot cgro ng 80k+ if I am not wrong.

    in my opinion,
the more effective deterrent against car theft, is the visible deterrent.
if the would-be carnapper sees the blinking diode, indicating an alarm (kahit fake pala), or the steering wheel clamp (even the cheap variety), or a yellow thingee clamped against the wheel,
he will, in more likelihood, pass up the car and look for a less incriminating car.

carnappers are opportunistas and logical thinkers.
if they see something in the car that suggests that they may have trouble accessing control, or alarm the authorities, or take a longer time to bypass,
they will in all likelihood, look for another, easier victim.

"bat ka papatol sa kotseng may alarm or may steering wheel lock, when there are other cars without them to steal?"

if you have two identical cars, one with a cheap steering wheel lock, the other with the most sophisticated alarm and locking system money can buy (but hindi naman visible on the outside),
which car will the carnapper initially think of stealing?

The initial estimate is 70k, covered ng insurance pero not sure how much at kung may additional pa. Estimated 2 to 4 months mawawala sasakyan. Dahil daw yan pag maghihintay ng Insurance. This is the biggest concern now, my wife love the innova and it will be temporarily replaced by an old car.

Regarding the airtag, kala namin itinapon na sya sa ilog sa qc. Pero it's still moving, right now nasa e. Rod. I think the thief or someone na nakapulot non eh akala key chain lang yung airtag.

even if the insurance provider will cover the 70K cost to you, they always have this depreciation cost that they love to brandish around. the amount you will literally hand over, gets larger and larger, with the advancing age of your vehicle.
and of course, there's the 2-4 months languishing time, as you wait for the foot-dragging insurance agent to do his thing.
hey! with a fast insurance adjuster, i was able to get my dent fixed in 3 days only.

ask around for shops that can do this lock replacement.
they can probably do the entire thing in a couple of hours tops. you might be surprised how much they will charge you.

as for the alarm, puede sana not to need to replace the old alarm. but if you have to...
i suggest a third party alarm and not the factory toyota alarm. the price difference is huge. ask what features you may lose, should you choose the third party alarm. and don't forget depreciation costs for the alarm as well.

    good luck.

The vehicle is brand new acquired just this March. 2024. Wouldn't doing these outside casa void the warranty?

that's great! (so to speak, po.)
let the insurance and the casa do everything.
there won't be no depreciation costs, and your vehicle is good as before the event.
i imagine, you will pay only the participation fee.
yung 2-4 month waiting time na lang ang nakaka-inis.
flog your insurance adjuster frequently, po.
    heh heh.

Sa Xpander namin, nawala smart key sa mall. Sa old Diamond Q. Ave. nag order ng key, mga 2 months inabot.

    Smart key, 14k
Casa reprogramming old and new key, 2k
Driver side cylinder lock + 2key set, 5k
Labor sa cylinder lock, abot lang 500 kay manong hindi na dinaan sa system.

I don't think you have a choice here. Have it done through insurance and casa and just suck up whatever out-of-pocket expenses you'll have to shell out. Aside from the participation fee, it's brand new so no depreciation yet.

If the insurance insist that they will only cover the lost key plus incidentals, remind them that they risk losing significantly more if the car ends up getting stolen later. Bottom line is, try to negotiate for a full key/lock system replacement.

    in my opinion,
    a car that new,
i'd have it fixed up by the casa and no one else.
if it were several years old (as i initially assumed), i may bring it to the banawe boys.

All this extra trouble (collateral damage) because his bag was stolen with the keys in it.

Tubuan sana ng sangkatutak na pigsa yung mga magnanakaw na yun...

35 years ago, I would've just changed all the door locks to a Solex and just swapped out the compromised ignition switch for a new one. lol

Ah yes, I remember nauso din yang Solex locks in the 90's, a lot of the accessory stores in Banawe had them.

They fell out of favor when people realized that car doors are mechanically easy to open, regardless of lock mechanism. I saw one guy in Banawe simply use a long wire once para hugutin yung mechanism. A less refined way would be to simply break a glass panel and reach in.

    sudden memory light!

i once purchased a very used sedan, with solex door lock.
it was years later, that i found out, that even a paper clip could have unlocked that "solex".
    heh heh.

    kasalanan nang hollywood.
they make it look so easy, in them movies.

    my guess is,
mere possession of the gadget is a crime.

The Honda Civic EG door lock was easy to bypass using a wire coat hanger or GI wire bent into a hook. Well most 80s - 90s cars used the same door lock panel design. I remember getting on a Corolla Big body taxi with holes drilled through the all 4 door lock actuators. I asked the driver, he said it was to make opening the doors easier in case he left the keys inside.

    unless sira the lock,
most car door locks are designed to make it more difficult for you to lock yourself out of your car, with the keys inside.

and i am wary of taxis whose door locks are non-functional.
    it makes for holdap moves.

Eto nalang gawin, kunin starter relay at fuse pump habang ginagawa pa yung key fobs.

Pero if maalam magnanakaw, magbaon na yan ng relays just in case Innova talaga yung target.

Uso pa ba nakaw-gulong on Innovas or other similar designs with the spare tire under the chassis? I know it's a lottery, but statistically... is it still a major concern today?

When I bought my previous Innova in 2015, spare tire thefts were a bit more common. Sabi nila (whether true or scare tactic lang to get you to buy a lock), sisipain lang daw yung spare tire into submission and it will literally come lose from its carrier so I had a lock installed from the factory. Nowadays... in fact, at least in the last 6-8 years, wala na akong nababalitaan.

i had my original spare mag stolen, years ago.
i had since installed a cheap bicycle lock, and no mo' stealin' happened.
of course, my replacing it with a steelie with a used tyre, instead of an alloy with brand new tyre, could have somethin' to do with it...
