No discount on this model. I think the 70k worth of amenities found in the V is justified. Parang wala masyadong laman yun G (AT).

Just saw a new Altis (1.6G) in BGC. It looks smaller than the previous gen.

The new Altis isn't as impressive as it needs to be. Interior quality and features doesn't even match the 3-year old Civic yet, unlike the Mazda 3 which is the new segment leader in terms of premium execution.

I like that they went from beige to black for the interior, but without the nice head unit from the USDM model, the cabin looks a bit plain.

While width is retained from the previous model (1780 vs 1776), the interior feels narrower because of the lower roofline and darker colors. Legroom is still better than a Mazda 3 or other subcompacts, closer to the 11th gen Altis or FC Civic.

Without any big improvements vs the previous gen or its competitors, plus the fact that fewer people buy compact sedans these days, I doubt this Altis will be a blockbuster seller.

Vios sales are definitely higher, there's strong pressure for TMP to sell the Vios since it's enrolled in the CARS program.
Most of Vios sales are the mid and entry level variants. I think other brands sell more higher trims.

It better be since you’re paying a hell of a lot more compared to the Altis.

Anyway, the Mazda 3 isn’t that premium-feeling to be honest. It looks good but some parts still feel cheap like the doors and some buttons. Driving it is probably a different story, although the engine options are pretty weak.

1.295M vs 1.185M so it's just a 100k difference between the 1.6V Altis and 1.5 Elite Mazda 3, and they're pretty similar spec-wise. The 2.0 Sport undercuts the Hybrid by 100k (1.5M vs 1.6M) despite having more toys and power. The buying market for compacts has changed - 100k is an acceptable price gap if the more expensive car ticks more boxes on their checklist or makes them feel happier. Penny-pinchers would have probably gone with something more practical like a Rush or Xpander rather than a compact sedan.

I compared the top 3 compacts one after the other, the Mazda 3 feels better finished than the Civic or Altis. The Mazda has more leather touchpoints than the Civic and it's done tastefully (unlike say an MUX which has a lot of leather but feels very aftermarket). The infotainment system is also head and shoulders above the local head unit of the Altis, with a tactile knob, fast response, and a huge screen. The Altis doesn't even come with Android Auto or Apple Carplay, quite a letdown for a car over a million pesos.

The Altis 1.6V is a far better choice especially compared to the more expensive Mazda 1.5 Elite. It's got leather all around and the fabric seats and door panels of the 3 feel cheap. Features of the 1.6V is almost comparable to the 1.8H save for the bigger, hybrid engine. The 3 Elite at P1.295 doesn't make any sense and it would be better to go all out with 2.0.

It is the Altis 1.6G that's been downgraded though it still got all disc brake, automatic aircon with rear vents but the removal of fog lamps and the cheap looking 16" wheels is a deal breaker.

The Altis, like the Civic has all independent suspensions, which naturally would give a more pliant, stable ride compare to the new 3. Though the 3 is a little better in overall handling.

I really don't get that premium feel in the Mazda 3. Sure it looks amazing inside and out, and it is jam packed with features but it still feels like the common Japanese econo car when you touch and handle things. And when I hear some reviews compare the feel to Lexus, I was like "WTF are they talking about?"

I can say this because in the showroom I was able to compare the 3 to our older Focus, and even though the 3 made the interior of the Focus look really outdated, it still felt more solid than the 3. Sure the leather in the steering wheel and the center console felt better in the 3 but that's about it. The 3's door felt lighter and somewhat flimsy, the dials aren't as satisfying to touch and turn, the soft touch plastics and leather aren't as padded.

In short, Mazda nailed it with the premium looks and features, but for the premium feel? Not yet.

You're contradicting yourself. Premium looks + features = premium feel.

I didn’t. I clearly said it looks premium but when you start touching stuff you realize it feels just like any ordinary compact Japanese car. That’s it. Simple.

And by the way, Features =/= Premium

Euros, touted premium for their price, innovation, build...&...PRESTIGE???[emoji4] Everything feels snug, weighty...solid. Everything from that side of the world, Euro Fords included, seem to be built similarly. They love torx bits, wheel bolts instead of nuts, DIN stuff....yeah, Deutsches Institut fur Normung...sounds just that...Exotic, Aryan, Premium.
Nippons tend to go simpler, lighter & way tinnier....but, the former(euros) got some common premature tendencies that happen less to the latter. The headliner sag, the door mech/window regulator fail, sticky plastics, leaky everything, weaker bushes/dampers to name some. Serviced some to know their patterns of predictability. And, for some reason or quirk, these 'premiums' seem to need more attention & care at shorter intervals. Nippons? They generally may feel less.....but, they seek less....we pay less, we worry less. They just give MORE.
My brother had a Focus hatch. He loved it way before he had it. Loved it when he finally had it....but just couldn't keep it as long as he wished to keep it....unlike his humble Hondas, a wishboned Civic & a gen1 City Z.
Sure, Bimmers, Pcars, Mercs, VAGs....lotsa fun. They've dictated, earned premium. Would I be among those to grab one to proclaim some arrival? Not my boat to float. I'm fine w/ the hobo light & tinny premium wannabe.... from that land whose sun has long risen.[emoji4][emoji111]

Hehehe. I was just saying that people should stop saying that the 3 feels premium. Baka kasi mag set ng expectations ang mga tao. 😂

But it’s a great car nonetheless. Probably my favorite among the Japanese subcompacts but that price really hurts it...

I also don’t look for that premium feeling experience like some people. What I look for in a car is the bang for the buck...
